Dorothy passed away peacefully at Kiwanis Pavilion in Victoria, British Columbia surrounded by tremendous love. Dorothy is predeceased and now reunited with the love of her life, her husband of 48 years, Edward Laughlan (November 8, 2012 ) and her parents, Catherine (Reeber) Young and Lester Young and in-laws Helen and Edward Laughlan and James and Joan Laughlan.

Dorothy was the beloved mother to Jennifer (John Quish) of Toronto, Ontario, Kevin (Sandra) of Leesburg, Florida, Owen (Shannon) of Arnprior, Ontario and Sheila (Steve Ramsey) of Victoria; devoted Grandma D to Keenan and Emma Laughlan and Erin Quish; cherished sister of Kathleen Murphy (late Robert) of Vernon Hills, Illinois, Patricia Ambio (Raymond) of Roseland, New Jersey and Theresa Foley (late Robert) of Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey. She will never be forgotten by her nieces and nephews and their families.

Dorothy was born at home in Union, New Jersey and grew up in Livingston.  In June 1964, she married Edward and lived for several years in Oxford. In 1969, after accepting an employment opportunity in Peterborough, Ontario (Trent University), Edward returned to the country of his birth along with Dorothy and their family eventually settling in Lakefield, Ontario for 23 years. It was there that she made a home dedicating her time to her young family of four children and enjoying church and community activities and gardening. Upon retirement in the early 1990’s, Dorothy and Edward moved to Chemainus on Vancouver Island after falling in love with its beauty while on their honeymoon in Victoria.

Sadly, Dorothy experienced a decline in her health and moved into Oak Bay Kiwanis Pavilion in June 2015 where she received outstanding care and love. She especially enjoyed Music Therapy and participated in that wonderful programme every Friday.

We, Dorothy’s family would like to thank Kiwanis Pavilion for their tenderness and compassion during the past three and a half years especially the exceptional and loving staff on Unit 3A. We equally express our heartfelt gratitude for the kindness provided by St .Patrick’s Church, especially Christine Atkinson who faithfully brought the Holy Eucharist to our Mom every week. This gave Mom such joy. We are truly blessed to have had these wonderful angels on earth caring for our Mom.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church at 12:10 pm on Friday, January 11, 2019 with a visitation 30 minutes prior to service time.  Interment will follow at Ladysmith Cemetery.
