Dr. Beverley Matheson was born August 28, 1941 in Edmonton, Alberta and passed away June 15, 2020 in Victoria, BC.

Today I imagine there is an angel in flight hovering just above the clouds reluctant to leave this world and those she loved more than life itself.  Her husband Malcolm Matheson, family, Louise, John, Cynthia, Marian and grandchildren Megan, Elizabeth and Malcolm share the heartbreak of her loss with so many whose lives she touched.  Her career as a nurse, psychologist, and professor at the University of Victoria followed by her volunteer work for the Horticultural Society defined the essence of public service, intellectual curiosity and compassion.  Just like a prairie rose she brought with her all the promise of spring, beauty, resilience and sheer delight in life.  Her brilliance, the warmth of her laughter is that light that will continue to guide us forever and a day.

A Remembrance service for Beverley will be held at a later date to be announced.  Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Belated condolences from a high school sweetheart. Beverley obviously fulfilled the promise she showed as a bright, beautiful, compassionate and determined teenager. Having had no contact with Bev for over 60 years, I am pleased to learn her life was productive and joyful and am sure you will all miss her dearly.

My heartfelt condolences Dr. M and family on the passing of Bev. She was a true light and will be missed and remembered. It was a pleasure to work with her at CLEU, and on occasion, to enjoy and marvel at the wonderful cakes (no.. masterpieces) that she would create. She had so many talents that she shared willingly with all that knew her.
My heart goes out to you all during this very sad time.
    Sending hugs,

  • Patricia Brown, Arleen Sheehan, Roberta Bender

We were saddened to learn Beverly passed away. Bev was a special and valued member of the Nursing Class ’62 of the Calgary General Hospital. Without exception we all loved her.
She truly was a beautiful Alberta rose transplanted to her beloved coastal gardens.
Please accept our deepest sympathy and condolences.

Cheri Le Brun – Volunteer Coordinator at the Gardens at HCP
Our deepest condolences to the family. Bev was one of our most beloved volunteers and will be greatly missed at the Gardens.
She was kind and gentle and had great empathy for others. I looked forward to our Tuesday afternoon chats when she volunteered in the office. We shared some wonderful conversations and laughs. She always spoke of her husband Malcolm with great love and affection. She and I shared a love of animals and she helped with the care of the garden cat Albert.
I will remember her fondly and I deeply appreciate the time I had with her.

Goodbye to my dearest friend, I will miss our phone chats, our mini-hi emails. Her friendship since we met at the U of A in 1962 has been a life line for me. We shared many joys, laughter and tears. I head to my garden and shed tears. Hugs to you all.
