Ted passed away in the early morning hours of June 14th – just 15 days short of his 75th birthday. He spent 33 years of his life sailing on the B.C. Ferries. Starting as a server in the restaurant, then as a deck hand, and then as a Second Officer on the bridge.
He also will be remembered for his love of animals – having had many dogs, cats, and birds in his life.
The Ukulele became his musical interest in latter years – he loved his jam sessions with his Ukulele friends. He is survived by his partner of 15 years, Bettye, his sister Louise, and his brother-in-law John.

Chelsea There was something about Ted that made me feel the entirety of my heart. His words, though few, meant something. Even in his last weeks, he inspired someone like me, a shy musician, to play. I will always think of you, Ted, as I keep on learnin’ to pick.

Capt. Steen Jessen, When I joined BC Ferries in Swartz Bay 1994 after 32 years in the RCN, Ted was a Second Officer on board the Queen of Saanich and he was responsible for familiarizing me as a Second Officer. Ted was a great mentor with a wonderful sense of humour from whom I learned a lot about working as a BC Ferries Deck Officer. He was a true gentleman and a good friend. Rose Oishi Ted enjoyed strumming and jamming with friends near and far. He encouraged novice and seasoned players alike. His wonderful sense of humour and his kind ways were appreciated by all who knew Ted. Heartfelt condolences to Bettye who was his treasured partner and companion for the last fifteen years. We will all remember Ted as a dedicated ukulele strummer and singer in a Hawaiian shirt.

I grew up next door to Ted. We always played in his back yard. He was a great playmate. I remember his mother and sister as well. I ran into him a number of years ago and it was like old times.
