It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mom and nonna after a battle with lung cancer. Mom is predeceased by her husband Angelo in 1998. Left to mourn are her children Vince (Susan), Louise (Gino) and her grandchildren Kayle, Soraya, Lorena and Eugenia. Mom also leaves behind beloved family and friends in Canada, Italy, France and Switzerland.

Mom was born in Italy and immigrated to Victoria, B.C. in 1954 meeting our father on the voyage over. They married in 1956 worked hard at multiple jobs, nurtured their family and built a business. Mom had a love for learning and travel. In her retirement years Mom found great joy in volunteering at Monterey Centre (20 years) and Abkhazi Garden. She was a member of Victoria Floral Arrangers Guild and other gardening related clubs.

Thank you to the caring staff at Amica Douglas House where mom spent her last nine months.

Mass of Christian burial will be at St. Andrew’s Cathedral on Friday, August 5, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. followed by interment at Ross Bay Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the charities she supported, Victoria Hospital Foundation and Victoria Hospice.

  • Pat Esler

To Vince, Louise and families, sincerest and deepest condolences from Pat Esler, daughter Carol McGregor, grandchildren Jennifer Sutton and James McGregor, and all our families. Elia was the most amazing woman, on so many levels, and all of us have such happy memories of time spent with her. My Mom Pat loved Elia beyond words. They have the strongest bond, that not even death can break. They weren’t able to see each other much over the past few years, but their bond and sisterly love for each other remained strong and constant. “To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die”. Elia will live forever in SO many hearts!!!
Written by Carol McGregor on behalf of Pat and family.

  • Doris Johns

To Elia’s family, I send my heartfelt condolences on your mom’s passing. I met her through my mom Teresa (also Italian). We had a connection and became friends. I occasionally dropped in to see her on McNeil and later on at the apartment, and we spoke on phone every so often. She was strong, hard-working, and smart. I really liked her and respected her greatly. I will really miss her.
