Florence passed away in Victoria, BC at the age of 94. Beloved wife for 65 years of the late James Joseph Atherley (2008). Survived by her six children: Anne Atherley, Maureen Howey, Lois Atherley (Tony Giaccio), Barbara Ferrazzi (Gabriele), Jim Atherley and Ron Atherley (Mikki Townshend).

Florence was the proud grandmother to 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents, James and Gertrude (Pedigrew) Kelly; her much loved aunts that raised her, Henrietta and Agnes Gallishaw; siblings Richard (Gertie), Bill (Mary), Esther (Gene Lalonde) and Patricia (Cyril Warford).

Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland in 1924, Florence met her husband, Jim, when he was serving in the RCN during WWII.  As a teenage war bride, she traveled with the troops across Canada to Esquimalt/Victoria BC. This was the first of many moves to follow across Canada and the United States, eventually completing the circle and returning to Victoria in retirement.

Florence was devoted to her family, but she always found time to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. Her generosity and kindness were truly remarkable. She will be remembered by anyone who had the luck to know her for her boundless energy, warmth, and laughter. She will be missed.

Many thanks to the staff at Trillium at Douglas Care for their care and compassion.  Much gratitude to the Beckley Farm Day Program for years of friendship and fun.

Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Sunday, July 8, 2018 in the Redwood Chapel at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon, July 9, 2018 at St. Andrew’s Cathedral, 740 View Street, Victoria, BC.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, 300-828 W. 8th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C. V5Z 1E2 would be greatly appreciated.
