Gim Wong, age 88, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2018.  Born October 14, 1929 in Sun Wui Chun, China; she married Wong Chun Choy in 1947 at the age of 18 and became an instant mother to three children from a previous marriage.  Together, they had one son before immigrating to Canada in 1954.  They added two more sons to their family during their lives in Victoria.  In 1971, Wong Chun Choy passed away, leaving Gim to raise their three young sons on her own. Understandably, this became a very difficult time for Gim and she worked very hard until her mid 60’s.

Gim is survived by her sister, Nip Dong Gi; step-daughter-in-law, Lily; step-son, Kan (Penny); sons, Sonny (Debbie), James (Norma), Michael (Joanne); grandchildren, Theresa, Nick (Joy) Samantha (JL), Alexa, Carissa, Peyton, Sophie;  12 step-grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

With such a large family, Gim was well loved and cherished.  Her grandchildren were a particular joy in her life.  She loved to cook for her family and enjoyed spending time with them in Victoria and Vancouver.  She loved food, her Chinese TV shows, and going on vacations with her family – especially cruises.  She was a proud, supportive, and caring woman who will be dearly missed and forever remembered.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 4, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive with interment to follow at Royal Oak Burial Park.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
