Garry Browne passed away peacefully on the evening of June 20, 2018 at St. Charles Manor Complex Care Nursing Home in Victoria at the age of 96 years.  She is survived by her two daughters, Dianne Browne of Victoria and Susan Evans of Vernon, B.C.; her grandson, Jason (Nyssa) Evans; her two great-grandchildren, Brynn and Marcus of Victoria; her two sisters, Phyllis Remple of Victoria and Barbara Wainwright of Surrey, England; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Garry was predeceased by her husband, Owen, in 1984 at Victoria; her husband, Bob McEwan, in 1943 at Sicily; and her brother, Graham (Eileen) Ashford, in 1993 at Surrey, England.

Born in Oxted, Surrey, England to Edgar and Ivy Ashford, Garry was the eldest of four children.  After her first husband, Bob, was killed in Sicily during WWII, Garry married Owen and moved to Calgary, Alberta as a war bride.  The exemplary wife of a career army officer, Garry lived in many towns and cities in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, British Columbia and England, finally retiring to Victoria in 1970.  She was a skilled dressmaker and seamstress and an accomplished knitter.  She also enjoyed gardening, refinishing furniture and searching for antiques at farm auctions.

Special thanks are extended to Dr. G. Luckhurst, Garry’s primary physician for so many years and to the compassionate staff at St. Charles Manor who cared for her in the last two years of her life.

A small private family memorial will be held.  Those wishing to do so may make a memorial donation in Garry’s memory to the B.C. Cancer Society, 150-686 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC V5Z 1G1.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

To Dianne, Susan, and family. I’m sorry to find out about you mother’s passing, especially as your mother was a great support back in 1984 when my own mother was suddenly ill and passed on so quickly. Also your mother, as well as your dad, was always good friends with my mom. Take care.
    Chris
