Glen was born in Souris, Manitoba to Luard and Frances Canning (nee Hayward). Glen grew up on the family farm just outside of Souris. In 1962, he married the love of his life, Mary Edna Reeve, while he was working for Manitoba Hydro. The call to go west was heard and they moved to BC in 1965. Glen worked for BC Hydro until his retirement in 1997. Glen then went to work for Horizon Power for another 15 years.

Glen had an active involvement with the Power Pioneers having been Provincial President, and enjoyed the many events. Anyone who came into contact with Glen either on the golf course or at the curling rink knew him for his large smile, firm handshake and huge bear hugs. Glen was always a farm boy at heart and will be missed by many.

Glen is survived by his brother Brian (Donna), wife Mary, sons Daryl (Shelley), Dwayne (Dayna) and daughter Donica (Greg). Grandchildren Ashleigh (Chris), Crystal (Matt), Drew (Jennifer), Alysha (Oz), Ashley, Michelle (Mike), Andrew (Casandra), Jeff (Shelby), Becca (Liv). Great grandchildren Coral, Matthew, Sophie, Bryce, Jasper, Lochlan, Ayla and Leyla.

I would like to offer my sincere condolences to Mary and her entire Family for having lost your husband, partner and most likely your best friend. It is disheartening to know that one has been left behind. Frankly, I was rather shocked to get the News of Glen’s passing especially after just having had lunch with the group just prior my leaving for Mexico. Little did I realize that I will never again greet this so friendly man with his big smile.
I am so very sorry for your Loss!

Mary and family, Mark and I are so sorry to hear that Glen has passed away. He was one of a kind with his booming voice, big smile and hearty laugh. The market won’t be the same without him there beside his buddy Len, That corner will be a lot quieter now without his laughter and salesmanship. . Our condolences

  • Dick McCarthy

Sincere condolences to the Canning family. I live in Mill Bay but have known Glen through the many curling bonspiels over 17 years. I always looked forward to seeing Glen and spending time with him. He was big, easy going and friendly with a fantastic sense of humour. Laughter always dominated the conversation. The hole left by his passing will be large and he will certainly not be forgotten.
    Respectfully, Dick McCarthy.

  • Meredith & Len Skalicky

Forty five years and so many memories……The Canning-Skalicky-Page campsite at Green Lake complete with good food, kids, snakes and occasional blood shed. Golfing at 108, also with occasional blood shed. Hydro dances with cowboy boots, Glens aftershave that brought us hydro ladies to our knees ( in a good way ) and yes, occasional bloodshed. So many memories of a good friend who would always have your back. We are heartbroken. The Skalicky family will miss you. May the wind be at your back good buddy.
