Gum Hon passed away peacefully on December 23, 2022 in Victoria, BC.  He was born on May 15, 1932 in Sam Kok Tung, Chung Shan, China.

Predeceased by his wife, Sing Moy in 2021; Gum Hon is survived by his children, Janice (Nelson), Judy (Don), Linda (Wayne), and Amy (Terry); grandchildren, Eric, Kyle, Alex (Melissa), Andrew, James, and Jason; great grandchildren, Annabelle and Sloane.  He will be missed by many other relatives and friends.

Gum Hon immigrated to Canada in 1952.  He and Sing Moy married in 1960 after she immigrated to Canada as well.  They raised their first three daughters in Vancouver.  While living there, he owned his own lawn service business.  Then they moved the family to Victoria, where they raised their youngest daughter.  Prior to retirement, he worked in the produce department of Thrifty Foods on the Old Island Highway.  When he wasn’t hard at work, he enjoyed travelling, fishing, gardening and relaxing at home watching TV.

Thank you to the care team at the Victoria Chinatown Care Centre for keeping him comfortable during his final days.

A private Celebration of Gum Hon’s life will be held for the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Victoria Chinatown Care Foundation, 555 Herald Street, Victoria, BC V8W 1S5, or to a charity of your choice.
