Gwen passed away peacefully at Victoria General Hospital on February 18th, 2021, 3 days after her 97th birthday, and after a bad fall, with her daughter and granddaughter by her side. She was predeceased by her husband Art in 1999, her sister Audrey and brother-in-law Bill Turner, niece Terry, and her brother Doug and sister-in-law Amy. She will be missed by her daughter Linda Palmer (Rick), granddaughters Andrea Palmer and Shelly McIntyre, (Grant) and great grandchildren Ella and Grady. Also many nieces and nephews, and her oldest and dearest friend, Marge McGowan.
She was born on February 15, 1924 in Victoria and lived her whole life here. She went to Tillicum Elementary and Mount View High. Her first job was washing windows, never fearing the heights. Then she worked at The Bay in the meat department until her marriage in 1946. She loved to play the piano and sing, and was an accomplished seamstress. She and Art enjoyed square dancing for years, she belonged to a bowling league, where she won numerous trophies, and was a member of a ladies card group for many years as well. She was a good Mom and Nana, and always lots of fun. As empty nesters, they travelled all over North America on many bus trips with their friends. When her grandchildren got involved in sports, she and Art were always on the sidelines cheering them on. We will all miss her kind ways, her sweet smile, quick wit until the end, and her devotion for playing by the rules during card games.

Sandra (Parton) Marshall & Jim Linda and family– The Parton family were neighbours at 2028 Kings Rd until my Mom, Gene Parton had to move into care, and died in 2010 at the age of almost 101. My brother, John, and I certainly remember The Book Club meetings held at various member’s homes! The group lasted throughout our childhood there, and we heard about the ladies for years afterwards. I remember baby-sitting for a cute baby, Linda (3 doors away)! I remember your Mom exactly as you describe her, and your Dad, Art, always ready for good fun with the — Stoddarts,Coopers,Unwins,Tidburys,Godfreys,Webbs,Vouts,Wilkinsons,Evelyn West, and all the kids from Kings Rd, Newton St, Carrick St. Foul Bay Rd.
John and his wife Louise, (in Cordova Bay) sent me the obituary, because Jim and I are in Ottawa.
I know that you will cherish all your memories of Gwen and Art, and the happy family years.

I met your mother when I was in my twenties, bowling for Oak Bay. Your mother left a lasting impression on me and occasionally we would meet at the hairdressers on Foul Bay Road years later. She was still this kind and gentle soul that I remembered. I asked at the hairdressers how she was doing. She will be missed.
