On March 5, 2019, Holly died peacefully, surrounded by her beloved family. Born in 1951, Holly was raised on a farm with eight brothers and sisters outside of Three Hills, Alberta. Holly was the third-youngest and named appropriately after the Christmas plant, holly, as she was born on Boxing Day.

Ambitious and extremely intelligent, she left the farm to head to University in Edmonton. Her dream was to become a teacher. She was a devoted teacher who went above and beyond the call of duty for thirty-four years in the City of Calgary. Holly also wrote and published books, award-winning plays, and created, designed and produced children’s board games.

She raised three children, making endless sacrifices to take care of them, and provided great care, leadership, guidance and assistance in the upbringing of her cherished and beloved granddaughter, Lara and ensuring her morals and integrity were instilled in her and her grandson, Noah.

She is survived by her daughters, Kimberley and Allison, and her son, Bryan (Ana), as well as her four grandchildren, Noah, Lara, Benjamin and Layla. She will be lovingly remembered as simply “Mom”.

Flowers, if desired, may be delivered to St. Elizabeth Church, 10030 Third Street in Sidney, BC before 9:00 am on Monday, March 11.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

I am so sorry Kimberlie for your families great loss. I see where your beauty and warm spirit came from. No words can heal your loss, but a warm loving hug is what our mothers would always give to us when we were broken. I’ll be here for it when you come home.

~ Just close your eyes and you will see, all the memories you have of me.

Just sit, be still and you will find, I’m really still there inside your mind.

Remember our love, hugs & kisses we shared. Know I’m right there with you these emotions we’ve shared.

A mother’s love has no end, it’s every rainbow, and every tear you shed.

I was a teacher, a nurse, a councillor, your cook and your chauffeur. It brings me great joy to have taken part in the amazing people I bared.

Don’t cry for me now I am gone, for I am in the land of song. There is no pain, there is no fear, so dry away that silent tear.

Don’t think of me in the end or in the pain from the past, but remember the good times fondly, as those are the memories that last.

For I am no longer old and at peace in this place filled with love, known to you all as “up above.”

    With great love, comes healing.

    Love; your friend, Michella

Celebrate her memory and the beauty she brought to your lives. It is never easy to say goodbye but I hope everyone finds peace and will rejoice in the memories that will forever be forever be in your hearts. Find peace knowing this is what she would want for her beloved family. There is a piece of her bestowed in all of you. In moments of difficulty and hardship may you all bring these pieces together in unity and as family. She lives within all of you. Rest in peace Mrs. Beattie. All my love to you and your family. Xo

Bryan & Ana… I’m so very sorry to hear about your mom. Reading her obituary I see what a wonderful and influential woman she was to you, your sisters, her grandchildren and many students she taught during her teaching career. She sounds like a positive, driving force in the many lives she touched over the years. She’ll be greatly missed by everyone who loved her and was loved by her.
