Surrounded by his loving family, Iain died peacefully on August 1, 2018 in Victoria, BC after a 50-year struggle with Type 1 Diabetes.

Born on October 23, 1942 in Inverness, Scotland, Iain was predeceased by his parents, John and Elizabeth. He is survived by his wife, Anna, their children, Rory, Robin, Joanna and their families, five grandchildren and two sisters.

Iain, a family physician, came to Canada with Anna in 1971, at first practicing in Lethbridge, Alberta where their two sons were born. In 1976, he moved to the west coast, to start a family practice in Parksville. Soon after, daughter Joanna was born. For the last 30 years, he practiced in Victoria and most recently was the school physician at St. Michaels University School. His wisdom and compassion greatly influenced the lives of the countless young people with whom he was surrounded.

But Iain’s greatest joy came from his family, of whom he was immensely proud, and his beloved grandchildren, who meant the world to him.

A Memorial Service will be held in the chapel at St. Michaels University School on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 11.00 a.m. followed by a reception.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation so that others may not suffer as he did. http://www.jdrf.ca/

Dr. Forbes was not only my doctor, but one of my true friends who genuinely. He was there for me on my darkest days, and never failed to lift the spirits of those around him. He is one of the few who TRULY cared for his patients. I really miss Dr. Forbes.

  • Don Pollock

I never saw Iain without a smile and he had this special gift of always leaving one on my face too. Many times he came to the aid of both Chris and Jame during their time at the school. He was a special blessing to all he met.

My deepest condolences to Mrs. Forbes, Rory, Robin, Joanna and to the entire family. Some of my fondest high school memories are of times spent at the Forbes’ house – there was always an open door, warmth, and a smile from Dr. Forbes. He had the admiration of the entire community but I know that there was nothing greater than the love and adoration he had for his family. I am truly sorry for your loss and am holding you close in my heart during this difficult time.
