Our loving father Allen passed away at home at the age of 84. He was predeceased by his parents James Edward and Margaretta Mae Wickes (nee Jacob) and his brother Dennis. Dad is survived by his devoted wife Arlene (nee Jacobsen), his loving children; Tracy Campbell (Alex), Rhys (Teri) and Karys Miguez (Fred); his loving grandchildren, Leah Ward (Greg), Kyle (Christine), Callum Campbell (Tessa); his five great-grandchildren, James, Marin, Brynn, Laine, Clyde; sisters-in-law Glenys Mincer (Irvin) and Kerry Jacobsen; and many nieces and nephews.

Dad was a native Victorian. He grew up attending George Jay Elementary, St. Louis College, and Victoria High School, graduating in 1955. Dad joined the Victoria Fire Department in April 1961 and rose to the rank of Assistant Chief before retiring in March 1993. He was proud of his time with the fire department and through his career developed many lifelong friendships. Dad was a co-founder of the ‘Charcoal Gang’ which brought retired firefighters together for regular socials. As with most firefighters, dad had a ‘side job’ which was a home based business keeping him busy throughout the years and well into retirement. Dad and mom were world travellers and he had a knack for recalling the historical details of the countless places they visited. In 2006 Mom and Dad invited the children and their spouses to accompany them on a 50th Wedding Anniversary cruise of the Mediterranean which we will all fondly remember. Dad was a very involved parent, grandparent and great-grandparent. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

No service will be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Firefighters Burn Fund at firefightersburnhouse@shaw.ca
