At home, in Victoria, B.C. in a rare Victoria snowstorm and on a day marked for love, Jane, our adored wife, mother, grandmother and aunt passed away peacefully. The room was bursting with love: she was held tight by her family as she held us for so long.

Jane was born in Coventry, England in 1941 to Tony and Millicent Hufton. She emigrated to Canada in 1953 as a precocious and curious 13-year-old girl ready to take on the world: she did just that. She went on to pursue her love of science and graduated from Sir George Williams University in 1962 with a B. Sc. and a B. Ed. from Bishop’s University in 1964. It was here, that she met the love of her life, Ernest John Rose (“Jack”). Together they raised a family, built schools, offered pastoral care to countless young students, travelled the world and doted on her six grandsons.

Jane was blessed with beauty and brains: a rare combination. She was a scientist and a teacher with an artistic eye. She could write up a lab report and knit a sweater in the same day with equal aplomb.

She loved her family fiercely (dogs included). Her legacy of love will resonate strongly in her husband of 56 years (Jack), her three children (Michael, Shannon and John), her six grandsons (Cameron, Connor, Curtis, Liam, Jack and Luke) and her beloved Golden Retriever Midas.

Please consider a donation in Jane’s name to Lupus Canada https://lupuscanada.org/get-involved/ways-to-donate/WWF https://wwf.ca/donate/ or BCSPCA  https://spca.bc.ca/donations/make-a-donation/?utm_source=header&utm_campaign=donate           .

A memorial service will be held at Christ Church Cathedral, Victoria, B.C. at a future date.

Our hearts are tender, but full. Be in Peace, Rest in love.

    Dear Jack,

May the ‘Deep Purple’ of yesterday’s eternal love and belonging comfort you in these passing times. Jane smiles in the love you and your family all eternally share.

I can imagine again the chapel at Bishop’s which gathered us all under the tolling bell. It lives on in us. The gowns, the prayers, evensong,Dean Jellicoe’s New Testament Greek class, Everyman (where I think you played God), and where I am sure your dearest Jane found the lasting love of her life.

    Blessings dear friend.
