It is with the greatest sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather John (Iain) Campbell. After six years of battling health issues, Iain died in hospital with his cherished wife Patti at his side.
Iain was born in Bellshill Scotland, and grew up in Baillieston outside of Glasgow. In 1967 at the age of 12, Iain, his father John, mother Jenny and older brother Tom, emigrated to Canada seeking a better future. Iain spent a few years in Edmonton before moving with his parents to Vancouver Island. At the age of 16, Iain met his future wife Patti whilst they both attended Oak Bay High School.
After high school, Iain attended the University of Victoria receiving a double major Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy and Political Science. On May 1, 1976, Iain married his high school sweet heart, and the love of his life Patti. Between 1977 and 1979, Iain attended the University of Victoria’s School of Public Administration working on a Master’s Degree when he changed focus and enrolled in the Faculty of Law at the University of Windsor in Ontario. Patti’s only stipulation was that they had to bring her cat Tovah – his first anniversary gift to her, a chocolate point Siamese.
In October of 1980, Iain and Patti welcomed their first child Sarah Victoria. In May of 1982, Iain finished his law degree and was called to the bar in British Columbia on May 10th, 1983. That September, they had their second child Katie Elizabeth. After a few years working at Harmon Crease & Company law firm, Iain struck out on his own, forging a small law firm with Patti at his side as his legal assistant. In 1986, they had their third child Andrew John Patrick.
Iain was a devoted husband, father and grandfather; cheering on his children and grandchildren in their various sporting, academic and musical endeavours. Patti and Iain remained very much in love and were together for 48 years. In addition to being a devoted family man, Iain was a Master Mason with Haida Lodge #166.
Iain was a steadfast, loyal, kind hearted, even keeled man. His only vice was football, the CFL’s BC Lions have lost their biggest fan. The world lost a gentle soul, a voice of reason, a mischievous teaser, a father, grandfather, lover and friend.
Iain leaves behind his beautiful and beloved life partner Patti; his children Sarah (Ken), Katie (Nick), Andrew (Sara). Iain’s greatest joy was being a ‘Poppy’ to his six grandchildren; Julia, Ethan, Jonathan, Georgia, Ruby and Elias.
The Campbell family would like to thank; Dr. Tristan Jones, Tammy RN, Bailey RN, and above all Dr. Jennifer Ross who “quarter-backed” Iain’s health care.
A Memorial Service and Reception will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 9:30 am in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC.

Gillian Fehr It is rare for a man to be surrounded by such love and devotion for so many years of his life. Rarer still is someone who experiences such support and adoration from such a large family for the same length. In the short time I knew your dad, I could feel how much he loved his grandchildren, children and his wife. I know how profound this loss will be for you all, and I am sending light, love, and strength during this impossible time.
John was a trusted legal council to me on two differant occasions. Always with intelligence and good humor. I will miss him. My condolences to the family.
