It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our brother and uncle John at the age of 70.

Born in Hamilton, Scotland, he immigrated to Canada in 1953 with his parents and younger sister, settling in Victoria, BC.

John worked as a custodian for many years at University Heights Shopping Mall. He loved his job and the people around him. Ill health may have hindered him in recent years, but he never lost his great sense of humour. John was never short on words, could always make us laugh and had a huge heart.

Twenty-two years ago, he conquered his demon and he lived his life quietly and contentedly ever since. We were so very proud of him.

He is pre-deceased by his father David (1970), mother Jeanie Flindell (1991) and step-father Len Flindell (1997). He will be dearly missed by his sister Edith Wilson (Craig), niece Stephanie Goodwin-Bisson, great-niece Piper Bisson and his good friend Tom Devlin.

No service by request. Cremation has taken place.

Memorial donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice.

RIP, big brother.

Dear Edith, just by chance I saw John’s obituary yesterday, it brought back so many memories…. I live near the Gorge now and often walk by Aral Rd and think of the house on Phillion place with the rock in the basement. I’m so sorry for your loss but so glad that John was able to conquer his demons and have 22 years of peace. I would love to get in touch and catch up. Hugs to you and your family.

Sorry to hear of John’s passing. We were close “buds” for many years before I moved to Vancouver.
