Joe passed away peacefully on December 26, 2022. He is survived by his wife and love of his life of 60 years, Areline (nee Duncan), sons Stefan (Diana) and Ian (Amy), and niece Nada (Giuseppe), as well as a world full of family and friends.
Joe was a husband, father, grandfather, friend, and neighbour and proud of his life’s story. Born in Podturen, Croatia, in 1934, Joe’s wishes for adventure and creating a new life spawned a lifelong love of listening, learning, and laughing. Family and friends were always welcome in his world, and he gave his time to everyone.
Joe worked at the Royal Jubilee Hospital for 38 years before retiring in 1998, and he treasured the moments he spent with his co-workers. Joe had an affinity for gardening and a love of the outdoors. His garden’s bounty was for sharing, and he was able to pass along this love of the outdoors and his love of storytelling to his grandchildren, Ewan and Claire.
Joe will be deeply missed by those who adored his undeniably kind nature and positive outlook for our collective future.
A Memorial Service will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC, on Tuesday, January 10, 2022, at 10:00 am.
