It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Judy Primrose, 68.  Born in Prince George, raised in Brentwood Bay, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend to so many; the world has lost a special person. She is survived by her husband, Wayne, sister Carol and family, daughter Susie (Joey), son Ritch (Lindsay), grandkids Scarlet, Liam and Jace . Predeceased by her brother Dave (Pat), and missed by his family.

Judy lived a full, warm, vivacious life, and left a lasting impression on everyone who crossed her path. She had a special ability to make people feel seen, heard, and valued and was always ready to listen over a cup of tea. She was an avid gardener, reader, and world traveler, but her true calling was being a grandparent.  A fourth-generation resident, her roots in Brentwood Bay run deep. A teacher in Saanich for four decades, she touched the lives of hundreds of students, and was a master of her craft.

A Service will be held on Wednesday December 8, 2021 at 2:00 pm in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, for all who want to celebrate Judy’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Judy’s name to the Brentwood Bay Community Association, at

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Mrs. Primrose was my kindergarten teacher; I still remember her teaching me letter and numbers one-on-one in hallways, encouraging fun and play, and accepting each student as they were.

I ran into Mrs. Primrose about 22 years after she taught me and she recognized me right away. She was a genuinely caring soul who shone brilliantly and changed so many lives – mine included.

Thank you Mrs. Primrose; you will be deeply missed.

  • Lee Ingebrigtson

  • Leanna Eastgate

I will always remember Judy’s smile,

My kids were lucky to have her as their kindergarten teacher, especially my daughter Annalee. Mrs. Primrose spent extra time encouraging Annalee to enjoy her first year of school.

A few years later I shared the joy with Judy and Gramma Primrose watching Suzie and my daughter Lindsey play softball. We always sat together and cheered the team on.

Fast forward to the last 10 years The Primroses have been my neighbours. It been my pleasure to have known Judy all these years.

I wasn’t able to make the service but I’m sure it was as special as she was. To all of Judy’s loved ones, I’m deeply sorry for your loss.

    Leanna Eastgate and family.

  • Diane and Wayne McLellan

Our heartfelt condolences to Wayne, Susie and Rich and their families. Such a loss of such a wonderful person. I worked in Judy’s class for many years and appreciated her caring, thoughtful and loving ways she had with not only her students but for anyone who had the honour of working with her. After retirement we would get together for a lunch or coffee which I always looked forward to and enjoyed. I will miss her.

Unbelievable! This is such sad news. Teaching with Judy was a joy. My intermediate classes often buddied with Judy’s little ones. My favourite memory was exchanging classes for a morning. From that day forward, I appreciated the skill of every primary teacher…especially special ones like Judy.

It was with sincere shock and sadness, my wife and I received the tragic news from Susie of Judy’s untimely passing. We both regret we could not attend todays memorial service, which by the way I know Judy would have been proud of. It was excellent, and most notably so, with her nieces recollections, and finally the powerful words of both Rich and Susie your are truly a testament to your moms lifelong influence over your growing years, That together with your dads(Wayne’s)supporting influence.
    Great job today.

Please accept our sincere condolences to you all as you navigate through this difficult time, and please know that as with you Sandra and I will share the memories we have compiled over the past 42 years and the times we have spent with Judy, Wayne, Rich, Susie and extended family over that period. We will never forget Judy!

  • Diana Warwick

Our most heartfelt condolences to Wayne, Susie, Ritch and the grandchildren as well as to Judy’s sister Carol and extended family.
I will deeply miss my cousin Judy. She and I didn’t see each other often but, when we did, it was like no time had passed between visits. She was always so warm and welcoming and such a perpetually happy soul! Her enduring love for Wayne was truly something to behold. She was so very proud of her children and, once the grandkids came along they became the centre of her universe… being a grandma was definitely her happy place.
We are, unfortunately, unable to attend her service today but I’m sure it will be standing room only and filled to the brim with people who loved Judy… she was so very easy to love.❤️

I was so saddened to learn of Judy’s passing and would like to extend my sincere condolences to Wayne, Susie and Ritch and your extended family. Judy was always such a bright light at Prospect Lake School and I really enjoyed working with her. She seemed to have infinite patience for all her ‘little charges’. Bubbly and fun are words that come to mind when I think of Judy. She would always update me on how and what Susie and Ritch were up to and was so proud of both of them. We really have lost a very special person much too early.

  • Nathan Robertson

I am so sorry to hear of Mrs. Primrose’s passing. While I never had her as a teacher at Prospect Lake Elementary, she made an effort to get to know pretty much all the kids/families at the school which really speaks to her kind and empathetic nature. I remember distinctly her supervising recess, always with a bag of cheddar Crispy Minis in hand and a smile on her face. She was such a kind soul and I send you & your family my sincerest condolences.

I would like to offer my condolences to all of Judy’s family. I worked with Judy at Saanichton School for five years and remember her as a loving, caring and dedicated kindergarten teacher. She was adored by the children and parents and was highly respected by her colleagues for her skills as a teacher, willingness to work as a team member and commitment to lifelong learning. There will be much sadness amongst the legions of her former students who will recall how special she made them feel in their first year in school.

We are so saddened to hear of Judy’s passing. I could not think of a better early primary teacher or a nicer person. Our children LOVED her as their teacher. Dear Wayne, Susie, Ritch and Carol,

This is a time when words truly seem so inadequate. My sincere condolences and caring thoughts are with each of you, your kids and your large extended family. Jude was my very special friend for 40+ years. She was an amazing, strong and caring woman…a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and best friend. She also was one of the best teachers ever!! Jude had such a sweet and kind nature and she had a way to make everyone feel like they were important in her life. Jude had such a deep love for her family and I’m so saddened that her time was cut short with her cherished grandchildren. Sometimes there is a treasure amongst us and that was Jude. I will forever remember Jude for her warmth and goodness, for her smile and for her laugh. I loved Jude and I mourn with you at this very difficult time. You are one of the finest families I have ever known. xox

I loved her so much, she was so sweet, so kind and set the standard high for all other teachers to follow. She has left an indelible mark on so many through her teaching, warmth and kindness. She will be missed.

So sad to hear about the loss of Judy. She was such a vibrant, caring and energetic person, and I know so many people who she taught who just loved her. She was like an aunt to me as a child in Brentwood (though actually a first cousin once removed), and she will be dearly missed. She lives on in her absolutely adorable grandkids, whom she cherished.
