It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our mom Kerry Kelso. Born and raised in Victoria BC. She loved being part of her 2 daughters’ lives, leaving them to follow in her caring and courteous footsteps.  She was predeceased by her husband Glenn Fortune. She leaves behind daughters Ashley Fortune and Hilary Fortune as well as her own sister (Lesley) and brother (Don) and their families and countless close friends whom she thought of as chosen family. She passed peacefully in her sleep on January 2, 2022 at Royal Jubilee Hospital. She can now finally be pain and worry-free. As some of you know mom battled a large number of health concerns and she has been through so much over the years. She always fought a good fight. Strong and feisty through all of this and yet she was able to keep us laughing and “on our toes” every day until the bitter end, her “twisted” sense of humour and wit was never to be messed with. Our heart and soul of our family. We know how much you loved us and we’re proud of us. We love you now and forever. We will miss you more than you know. Forever watching over us, and caring for us all from afar we love you, mom. Rest In Peace. A huge and special thank you to her amazing team of doctors, past and present and those who have been intensely involved over the last few years, you know who you are, and all of the hospital staff. She loved seeing the home care nurses from Royal Oak Health Unit daily, thank you for taking such good care of her.

A memorial service will be held on January 15, 2022 at 2:00 pm at McCall Gardens. We will be holding a celebration/reception in the spring when we can gather, hug and laugh safely.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

    Ashley and Hilary
I was so sad to hear of your mum’s passing. I have many fond memories of the times we spent together when you were little. Trips to the park, beach, skating and swimming. I drank endless cups of coffee at your house. Your mum was always warm and welcoming. When she was PAC president at Monterey Elementary, she made volunteering fun with her patience and great sense of humour. You were truly blessed to have such a great mother.

I am truly saddened by Kerry’s passing. I grew up on Camelot two doors down from the Kelso family. I was in the same grade as Kerry’s sister Leslie. My father Jack Harris was a good friend of Kerry’s dad Hugh. One of my first part time jobs was working for Standard Furniture, a job that Hugh Kelso got for me.

One fond memory I have is when several of us newly teenagers, including Kerry and Leslie were dancing in the Kelso’s downstairs to 45 records. Kerry taught me how to jive. Another favourite record of Kerry’s at the time was Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport by Rolf Harris.

    Condolences to the family

I trust she is in a better place now, and no longer suffering.

I lived across the street of the Kelso’s and have only wonderful and fond childhood memories of the family. So easily that time passes us by but the memories are never lost and will always be dear to my heart. My condolences to the Kelso and Fortune families.

I was saddened to learn of Kerry’s passing today. We grew up on Camelot Rd. and went to school (often in the same class) together through Frank Hobbs Elementary and Gordon Head Jr. High. My condolences to the Kelso and Fortune family.

  • Judy Russell (Fleming)

My sincere condolences to the whole family – I went through school from Frank Hobbs onward with Kerry, attending birthday parties etc. I lived on Sinclair Rd, overlooking Cadboro Bay, although my childhood home is now replaced with a new development. She was just a few months older than I am – far too young to have suffered so much. I moved away from Victoria at age 20 so we have not kept up but again – my sympathies to everyone.
