It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our father, Kien Thanh Trinh. He lost his life to Acute Myeloid Leukemia on December 29th, 2018. He passed peacefully at Vancouver General Hospital with family by his side.
Our father was a man who loved to care for and support his family. In 1980, he emigrated from Vietnam to Port Alberni, BC with his wife Mai and 2 young daughters. He had his 2 sons in Port Alberni and it was where he continued to reside until today. He held a determination to help his family live and thrive in this new country they now called home. Having survived the Vietnam War and escaping hardship, he raised his children to work hard and be thankful for the freedom this new country had provided them.
Our father was also an avid fisherman who loved the great outdoors. He thoroughly enjoyed picking wild mushrooms all over BC, as well as bracken fern and turned it into a lifelong career. Anyone who knew our father also knew he had a love for gardening. His ability to graph trees enabled him to grow multiple varieties of fruits for his entire family and friends to enjoy.
Being a grandfather was truly his greatest joy in life. The more the merrier was his philosophy. Ashley, Ava, Cole, Brady and Enzo were his most prized possessions. He loved teaching them to fish and take them outdoors to enjoy nature while learning to pick mushrooms and ferns.
His outgoing personality and laughter will not be forgotten by those who knew and loved him. He had a way of welcoming all into his home and heart.
Kien Thanh Trinh is survived by his loving wife Mai Trinh, daughters Nga Trinh, Chau Trinh (Nick Kruks), sons Long Trinh (Emily Qian), Han Trinh and Grandchildren Ashley, Ava, Cole, Brady and Enzo.
Kien is also survived by his mother, brother and sisters.

I remember Kien was always joyful to be around, happy to share any knowledge with you and always had a positive aura to him. I met Kien and the entire family through one of my best friends Han and I can say he raised all his children to be as appreciative, thoughtful, caring and joyful as he was. I’m just glad to have met such a great family in my life.

Leon, Han’s best friend, was considered Uncle Kien’s adopted son. Uncle Kien will always be that father-male-figure to me (Leon) and I will forever remember him.
Melissa, is Han’s good friend and I (Melissa) have met Uncle Kien several times. His stories were told, although we only known each other for a short period of time, his presence was and will always be admired.
