It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ling Kee Eng on November 30, 2021, at the age of 93.  Predeceased by his loving wife, Yuk Heung Eng. He will be missed by many, especially his devoted daughters Malley (Wayne), Lily (Anthony), Ellen, May (Rich), Sharon (Claude), and Cathy (Carlos). Adored grandfather to Nicole, Ashley, Alicia, Spencer, Alexandria, Jacob, Jordan, Landon, Mateo, Francesco, Ava, and Tobias, and great-grandfather to Walter and Henry.

Born in Canton, China, Kee followed his Grandfather to Canada in 1952. He was introduced to the love of his life, Yuk Heung, and after several years of correspondence, returned to Hong Kong in 1956 to be married before settling in Victoria and starting their family. Kee’s career of over 35 years included working as a chief cook on the BC Ferries and then as co-owner and chef of the Peacock Restaurant in Sidney. During retirement, Kee devoted his time caring for his grandchildren, building in his workshop, gardening, and outings with his wife.

Kee will be fondly remembered by those he met for his big smile, integrity, quick wit, sense of humour and graciousness. His family meant everything and he loved nothing more than sitting around the kitchen table, regaling stories about his life as they enjoyed the meals he cooked. Although he will be missed, we are comforted that he will be reunited with his cherished wife and both are forever in our hearts.

The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the Rose House staff at The Summit at Quadra Village for their care and compassion.

A private family celebration of life will be held.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Eldercare Foundation (https://gvef.org/donate/)

My parents considered your father and mom as part of the family, always referring to them as sister and brother as they lived next to my parent’s house back in China. May they all live in our memories and in ourselves. Our condolences to your families.

Sister Sharon and I are church sisters. I have never met Mr. Eng, but when I saw his smiling photo, I was grateful. Praise God for the salvation that Mr. Eng is now in the embrace of the love of the Lord Jesus Christ. One day we will meet again. Thank God for giving us this joyful hope. God loves you all, Yvonne Xu

John 14:1-3 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
