It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mai Ho (Huynh Thi Xuan Mai).  Mai, age 74, passed away at Vancouver General Hospital on Sunday, November 20, 2022. Mai is survived by her children, Linh (Tram), Tung (Amanda), Kim; grandchildren, Jovan, Liam, Mirabelle and Mila, and her dog, Bosco.

Mai was the sister to 10 siblings, (late) Hai, Ba, Nga, (late) Khoa, (late) Son, Lan, Sang, Minh, Nguyet and Sing.

Mai and her family came to Canada in 1978 as refugees from Vietnam. Originally arriving in Windsor, Ontario, the Ho family moved to Whitehorse in 1980 and has since called the Yukon home. Mai had many stories that told of her strength and resilience living through the Vietnam War and making a new life for her family in Canada. For those who joined Mai at her kitchen table for family dinners, she shared her first-hand experience being at the forefront of fighting against communism and surviving two assassination attempts. Mai has lived multiple lifetimes in her 74 years.

Mai will be remembered for the love she shared with her family and friends, being an incredible cook, her kind heart, infectious laugh, analytical mind, and her keen fashion sense.

Mai’s celebration of life will be in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 10:00 am.

I am so sad to hear of Mai’s passing. She was a beautiful spirit in this world. I worked with her at Yukon Energy and we shared smiles and laughs. Not only a beautiful spirit, she was a beautiful human being and her light shone bright in this world. I will miss her; the world is dimmer without her. My sincere condolences to her family. She is shining with the angels now. RIP Mai.

I remember Mai as such a serene person. We worked quietly alongside each other for several years in the Yukon, having the occasional conversation about life as we took lunch in the office. I always enjoyed and will remember her warm spirit, smile, and laughter.
