Passed away peacefully on February 10, 2019. Mac was born in Montreal on April 1, 1954. He was a guy you could always count on for a laugh, a good story, or a few words of wisdom (whether you asked for them or not). Someone who always seemed to have an answer for any crazy question you might have and would listen to even your most trivial complaints without judgement. Mac inspired many with his ability to make the most of any situation and appreciate all the small things in life. We will miss admiring the Olympic Mountains with him, many walks and bike rides taking in all of nature’s beauty, his sharp mind while playing cards, the witty letters he wrote, and his love for McDonald’s cheeseburgers.

Mac was a loving husband, father, and ‘Bampa’ to Tencza. He is survived by his wife Janet, their two daughters Emily (Phil) and Alison (Romelo) and his granddaughter Tencza (the absolute apple of his eye), as well as his siblings and their families. We all loved him very much and will miss his gentle and quirky spirit.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mac to Spinal Cord Injury BC https://sci-bc.ca/

Mac was so big when he was young that, even though he was two years younger than me, I got his hand me downs. His parents and siblings were friends from Beny Farm and then Montreal West. He was always smiling, from the very beginning. I am so glad to know he touched many people and had a family that loved him.

We loved Mac for his honesty and integrity. He was generous to a fault and loyal in every way. He will be walking tall where ever he is now. We have been very blessed to have known him and his loving family. Tencza will always remember him because of his quiet and loving ways and we will remind her as she grows of what an amazing person he was. We all loved Mac. We will miss him forever.

Definitely one of the good guys! I met Mac on a big accounting IT project years ago, and he had a way of making even the mundane fun. So smart, but more than that, Mac just brought a huge smile and a lot of perspective and reality in the room with him. Got together with him and some of those team members from time to time for years after. He loved talking about his girls, latest cycling projects and modifications, but more than anything, just sharing a good time with whoever he was with. My heart goes out to Janet and his whole family and circle of friends.

Awe Mac, my buddy, who I first met 23 years ago when writing the same exam for Internal Audit positions in the government … we soon progressed from acquaintances to friends to good friends, from working and playing (bridge and Cycling the “contraption”) … and many lunch-time walks along Dallas Road, chewing the fat and absorbing many of his wise tips, having a a few cigarettes, and enjoying many belly laughs along the way …

Mac … you were a very good friend to have and I will always treasure the wonderful memories I have of our times together … thank you so much for enriching my life and making me feel so welcome as a new Canadian.

Janet, Em, and Ali … my heart goes out to you and I offer you my condolences and support and continued friendship. Love you all, and feel for you!!

    Dear Janet,
I am saddened to hear of Mac’s passing. My condolences to you and your family. Mac was a friend to me when I was a nerdy, awkward youngster growing up in Montreal West. He watched out for me in his special, kind manner as we played together outside on Percival Avenue. I’ll always treasure that kindness. Goodbye my friend.

Sorry to hear about Mac’s passing. I just ran into Phil and he told me the news.
Mac was an amazing Dad and person in general. He and Janet were a wonderful part in my often terrible adolescence. I was so blessed to have a friend like Em with kind generous parents like them. I spent a lot of time at Em’s as a young teenager, and he never seemed to mind our shenanigans. Mac, you will be missed, and always remembered.

I was saddened to hear the news about Mac. While we had not seen each other in many years, I have very fond memories of my times with Mac while we were both studying for our CA in Montreal. Mac was always a generous and fun loving person and lived life to the fullest. My sincere condolences to Janet and all his family. He will be missed.

I had the privilege of getting to know Mac over many years of cheering our daughters on in soccer, and at so many neighbourhood and friend gatherings. Mac even attempted to teach me to play Bridge!

Mac has inspired me through the years, as he has many others, with his wit, intelligence and humour, and a boundless energy and positivity to live life well.

His unexpected passing has hit home and makes one realize how much we cannot take time for granted. I will very much miss his smile and nod.

Love and condolences to Janet, the girls and extended family.
