Died on May 16th in Victoria, BC at the age of 68. She left this world peacefully with her girls by her side. During her active life, Marg shared her gifts with those around her and had many accomplishments. Marg was the successful owner of Endeavours Communications, where one of her more notable and rewarding tasks was producing the weekly segment “Wednesday’s Child” for CTV Edmonton for 32 years. Marg spent many years living between Edmonton and Victoria, enjoying herself by gardening, entertaining friends, and most recently walking with The Sole Sisters. While Marg fought several forms of cancer for over 25 years, she was able to complete the TC 10K in 2011 & 2012, even while living with cancer in her lungs. Marg was predeceased by her mother Mary Ellen and her brothers Jim and Albert. She leaves to carry on her spirit her partner Ken Park, her daughters Krista (Mike), and Kari (Fraser), Ken’s daughter Laureen, and the grandchildren who were her shining stars: Julia, Michael, Cameron, Kaleigh, Doug and Darryl. She also leaves behind her brothers Gordon and Gerry Alex, “Sister” Linda, many nieces, nephews, cousins and her nephew Shannon Alex, who held a special place in her heart. Marg had a sparkle in her eye that never left and she touched all those she met.

Celebrations of life with close family and friends will take place in both Victoria and Edmonton. In lieu of flowers please make donations to The Victoria Hospice and Palliative Care Foundation or The Ride to Conquer Cancer (Mena Westhaver # 273927-4). The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. James Houston and the staff of Victoria Hospice for their gentle care of Marg and her family during her peaceful transition at the end. Condolences may be offered below.

I will miss you my friend. “Chicken Liver” lunches along with copious amounts of wine will never be the same or enjoyed. I have only just heard today (May 26th) on the CTV news. I do hope you went ‘gently’ and hope that your family and Ken are doing as best as can be expected. May your spirit soar.

I was saddened to see the passing of a teenage friend. We had a lot of laughs with friends as we walked to the theatre on 118 Avenue. Grade 9 was a memorable year (way back when). My condolences to the family on the passing of a lovely lady.

I am so sorry to hear of Margs passing. She was a wonderful person who you can never forget. I did “Sign On” with her back in the days of QCTV. Had so much fun…. She was fun loveing caring and full of life and will surely be missed. She called me in 2011 and we got together with some other friends from QCTV in Sept of 2011 for dinner in Edmonton. Awesome night reminiscing. Loved her!

Greta delivered the toast to the bride at our wedding almost 35 years ago in the dining room of my sister Phyllis and Jerry’s home. Only Greta would end the toast with an actual piece of toast! Many memories with my other sister, Lois’ father in law, wanting Krista and Kari to drink cherry vodka. They were both under 10 at the time.
Greta and I laughed about that for years. Greta dancing with Paul.
Greta getting life lessons from my Mother. Wonderful memories of someone bright, witty and a force in this world. May she rest in peace.

When Auntie G and I reconnected in 2009, I was so thrilled to reestablish that relationship.
She was always the “Cool” aunt and I admired her for so many reasons.
I flew out to Victoria to visit in late January, it truly was a memorable weekend. We spent 3 days just talking. I am so grateful to have had that time with her and will remember it always. She will visit my thoughts regularly and be forever missed. My condolences to all. We have all suffered a great loss.

    Krista, Kari, Ken and families,
I was so sad to hear of Marg’s passing. She was a wonderful friend with a sense of fun like no other. I cherish the memories of our life “in the condos” back in the early 90’s, sitting on the deck drinking wine and laughing until our sides hurt.
She was such a great lady and I will miss her always.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all now.
    Louise

Please accept my deepest condolences. As Greta’s (who she will always be to me :)) sister-in-law I recall many happy times spent in her home when nieces, Krista and Kari, were little girls. The world has lost a special person. I will look forward to helping to honor her memory in Edmonton.

I am so very sorry to hear of Marg’s passing. We worked together in the days of CFRN and bumped into each other at events over the years. I most recently saw her at the Cross as I waited for another friend to take treatment. We emailed each other and she told me that she had stopped her treatments – far to many over the years. Marg was/is a lovely woman who I was blessed to know in the crazy world of media. In one f her final emails to me she wrote something I will continue to pass along everyone I meet with a challenge of any kind .. “you can keep going even on those days when you really wonder if you even want to bother trying!” She was a power-house in many ways – with an unforgettable voice .. of passion and determination.

My thoughts are with you – hugs,

    Seanna Collins

Marg was one year ahead of me in the Ad/PR Program at Grant MacEwan Communuity College (as it was then called). Over the years, she excelled professionally – and indeed excelled equally in her family-related roles, too … a balance sought by many. She will be very-much remembered for “Wednesday’s Child”. Condolences to her family and many friends.

Greta was a friend for 48 years and although there were long stretches of time between seeing each other when we did get together it was wonderful. She was empathetic, loving and loyal to her friends plus she had a wicked sense of humor. I will miss her greatly. My heartfelt condolences to Ken, Krista, Kari and families.
