Marguerite passed away peacefully at Mount St. Mary Hospital in Victoria, BC, where her final days were spent surrounded by loving family and friends. She was born to Lulu and James Black in Whitby, Ontario, and was predeceased by her husband, Douglas Lemery; sons, Thomas and Charles; and her brother, James Black.

Left to mourn are her daughter Sally Hysop; daughters-in-law, Julie Lemery and Carol Lemery; grandchildren, Gretchen (Atli Crane), Lyra (Adam McLean) and Tyler Lemery (Brittany); eight great-grandchildren: Marin, Tegan, Lochlan, Kingston, Torin, Bronwen, Indiana and Luna; and nephew, Douglas Black.

Marguerite was a wonderful mother and an accomplished homemaker. She was a terrific baker and an exceptional cook- frequently inspiring her family with her kitchen prowess, and mentoring others with her culinary skill set. She adored family holidays – especially Christmas – and was very active outdoors in nature, where she enjoyed tennis, golf, and swimming. Marguerite was a proficient knitter and seamstress, and was always busy crafting sweaters for her family, friends, or for charity. She was an avid reader and loved to travel, visiting many countries during her lifetime. Her passion for natural and human history even led her to work as a docent at the Royal BC Museum! Marguerite was also an active member of a women’s patriotic service group, the IODE, for years, and she enjoyed participating in several bridge clubs (where she was a formidable player!).

Marguerite will be remembered as a nurturing mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. After a long life, well-lived, she leaves us with fond memories of her love for music, singing, dancing, and family celebrations; recollections of her infectious smile and warm, whole-body laughter; and a legacy of generosity and love which will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 2 pm, followed by burial at Royal Oak Burial Park and a reception in the Sequoia Centre (proof of vaccination required to attend please). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mount St. Mary Hospital, 861 Fairfield Road, Victoria, BC V8V5A9. Condolences may be offered to the family below.
