Marv was born in Stony Plain, Alberta, the youngest of 5 children. He grew up on a farm and went to school in a 1 room school until the end of grade 8. He then headed to boarding school at Concordia College in Edmonton and then headed to Concordia Seminary in Springfield, Illinois.
After graduating in 1960 he went to Churchbridge, Saskatchewan and enjoyed a new exciting time with new challenges. After three years, the church body felt he was suited to institutional work, so he moved to Regina to begin a new chapter of chaplaincy in hospitals, care homes, prisons and different institutions, which he enjoyed. Later, Extendicare Canada asked Marv to become a Lifestyle Director for their centres in Saskatchewan.
Jackie and Marv were married in 1975 and in 1978 had the opportunity to move to Victoria, BC. The first few years in Victoria, they enjoyed many adventures including running hotels, owned a Potato Head fast food outlet, started a step on guide tour business and hosted guided tours to Asia, China, Vietnam and many other fascinating countries.
Marv also served as an interim chaplain for William Head prison for 15 years and was extensively involved in community work.
Marv and Jackie did everything together and opened their home to hundreds of visitors over the years. Many doors opened for them and they always took the opportunities presented and enjoyed all their adventures.
Above all, Marv’s greatest pleasure in life was serving God and spending time with loved ones.

Fay Mallett Deepest sympathy to Jackie and family. Marvin was a great man and he had a great sense of humor. Enjoyed seeing him come to work at Luther Court. He was with me when my dad was laid to rest at Ross Bay and had been really good to my dad while living at Ophir Place and Luther Court.

Jackie Cox-Ziegler Marv’s love of the Lord and willingness to serve was so evident with the work he did at The Upper Room. He was an inspiration to me. The chaplaincy work at William Head and mentoring of others to connect with and support the men as they rejoined society was outstanding. Blessings upon you Jackie Goertz!
