Our  Mother, Mary, passed away peacefully on the 9th of February in Victoria. We will remember Mom as a gracious and elegant woman of great charm, warmth and kindness. We will also remember her as a person with a real gift for friendship. Born in Montreal, Mom kept up lifelong correspondence with friends from her childhood and McGill University days. Later, she added many friends from her trips and postings around the world with her husband, Archie, an officer in the Canadian army.  Mary and Archie married in December 1955 and their mutual interest in travel and golf took them around the world on many enjoyable adventures. They moved from Lethbridge to settle in Victoria in 1990.

Throughout her life, Mom was always welcoming and delighted to host or join a party.  She had wide interests, enjoyed all the arts and her homes were graced with beautiful paintings. Music was a particular and enduring love. Mom was also an excellent golfer, a sport she introduced to her husband and family and which she enjoyed for most of her life including a time as a member of The Victoria Golf Club.  Mom was very charitable and always helpful to her family, friends and to several good causes in Victoria.

Mom will be lovingly remembered by her children, Malcolm (Stephanie) Logan, Fiona Logan (Gerald Bovin), Heather (Mike) Parry and Helen Logan; her grandchildren, Caitlin Karpetz, Lindsay (Melissa) Karpetz and Jon (Maria Gu) Karpetz, and her two lovely great-grandchildren, Malcolm and Eleanor Karpetz. Mom was predeceased in 1998 by our Dad, Archie Logan, her husband of 43 years.

The family would like to thank the many people who touched Mom’s life and cared for her over the past few years. A special thanks to Mom’s companion Susan.

A Celebration of Mom’s Life will take place in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive in Victoria on Sunday, March 31, 2019 from 2 to 5pm.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Condolences to you all from Mary’s Scottish family.
We are so very sorry to hear of Mary’s passing. We loved meeting Mary and Archie when they came to the UK and found Mary such a warm and gentle woman with an understanding and sympathetic smile. She was such a good listener.
My parents May (nee Logan) and Andrew (Smith) enjoyed many visits from them in Scotland over the years and later I met up with them in the London area a few times.
We shall miss hearing Mary’s friendly voice on the phone at Christmas each year. She loved her family so much and you must all feel you have lost a very special person in your lives.
Our sympathy to all the Logan clan,
    May & Russ Teague

Mary was one of those people who left a mark on your soul. I had the privilege of being her companion for four years. The memory of her sunny smile and positive outlook on life was an example to me and that light will always shine in a corner of my being. I would like to extend my condolences to Mary’s wonderful family.
    Much Love Susan

I have known Mary since our days at McGill University in Montreal. We got to know each other very well when we took a lengthy car trip to San Diego for an Alpha Gamma Delta convention which was cancelled because of the Korean War outbreak.
We went anyway, along with CheeWee MacLaren and Anne Matthews, and had a fabulous time exploring the States from Montreal to Florida to San Diego to San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Wyoming then on to Niagara Falls and back home to Montreal!
We have stayed in contact all these years and happily I was talking to her from Stoney Creek Ont. a couple of weeks before she left us.
My condolences to her lovely family. I’ll miss her.

Di and I were so sorry to hear of Mary’s passing and write to send all the family our deepest sympathies at this sad time.
You are all very much in our thoughts and prayers.

We have the happiest memories of our short stay With Mary and Archie in Victoria during a holiday spent visiting our several friends in Canada. We were made so welcome, it was truly a “home from home”. I particularly remember being woken each morning by the float plane taking off for Vancouver!

Although we lived so far apart we maintained contact, the occasional letter, a closely written Christmas card and latterly a Christmas phone call.

We shall miss hearing Mary’s cheerful voice.

I want to offer my condolences. A number of years ago, I was your mom’s housekeeper, I remember her as being very gracious and kind. She took each one of these opportunities to talk to me about her kids, she was so proud of you guys. I now reside in Grande Prairie and so will not be attending the celebration of life, but please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Johanne

Mary was a beautiful lady – a beloved wife and mother. She was kind and so friendly and welcoming to all who knew her. I will miss our calls when we often talked about our times together with our husbands in the U.K., Canada or on holiday in Spain. A lovely life gone. Evelyn

My 4 years living next door to “Mrs. Logan,” mother to my dear friend Fiona, were so full of memories. Among my fondest was Mary’s endless help with high school English assignments. She was always willing to lend a hand, and made the poetry and short stories somehow make sense. Although many years have passed since we last saw each other, my memories of Mary remain vivid.

Condolence’s to Helen, Heather, Fiona and Mac, who were also fabulous neighbours and friends.

So sorry for your loss. Your mom was such a lovely person. Our thoughts are with you.

  • Jean Slaght

Mary was a lifelong friend but especially during our years at McGill and in our fraternity, Alpha Gamma Delta. Mary was our maid of honour when Bill and I married and moved to Calgary in 1951. Although never living in the same city for over 65 years, we never lost contact and always found times we could reconnect. I treasure her memory beyond words and miss her dearly. My heartfelt condolences to all her family.

My heartfelt condolences to Heather, Helen, Fiona and Mac and your families on your loss. You must feel so blessed to have had your Mom as such a big part of your lives for so long. As you reflect on your memories of your Mom’s life’s journey you must be filled with pride at the inspiration and influence she had on so many lives not only as a mother, grandmother, great grandmother but as a friend to many. Take comfort knowing that your Mom’s light will continue to shine in the hearts of those that knew her.

We feel privileged to have known Mary over the last few years. She was a gracious and kind person. We like to remember her dancing at Heather’s birthday party just last year. Her legacy is her wonderful family. Our thoughts are with you.
