Our beloved mother and grandmother, Moya Johnson, passed away with family and her dog, Tasha, at her side.  She was a strong and independent woman with a huge heart.  Her gardens, which she designed and maintained herself, were her pride and joy.  Nan, as she was known to the grandchildren, spent many happy days playing in the sand, paddling in the ocean, walking on the sandbars and swimming.  Moya was an active member of Engineer’s Wives and the Cordova Bay 55 Plus clubs where she had many friends.  She was predeceased by her husband, Len.  She will be missed by her three children, Brian (Heather), Anne, and Susan (Andre), and her seven grandchildren, Erin, Keira, Zander, Aiyanna, Bryn, Marika and Mahala.

A private family burial will take place at Royal Oak Burial Park.  Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada www.heartandstroke.ca would be greatly appreciated.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

I am so sorry for your and your family’s loss. What an amazing woman your Mother was! I am so grateful to have called Moya friend. We visited just before Christmas, me at the bottom of the stairs, maintaining a safe distance and the inimitable Moya at the top, regaling me with upcoming plans for the holiday to be spent with family. The sun setting, with just enough light left to show off her lovely garden, reminiscing about all of the wonderful dogs she had, acknowledging that as much as they needed her, she had needed them. We laughed and laughed. I truly loved your Mother, she was and always will be, a foundational thread in the fabric of this community.

Wishing you all well…from us both

My thoughts are with the family at this time of loss. I will remember Moya for her healthy lifestyle, great meals and her sense of humour. The last time I saw her she was having coffee at Starbucks with a friend and clearly enjoying life in her senior years.

I very much enjoyed my friendship with Moya while attending the Saanich Probus Club meetings and outings. Our times were certainly enhanced by her cheerful, positive personality. I know she dearly loved her family, garden, pets and seaside proximity. It is sad to lose a lovely, contented friend. Do cherish your memories with Moya.

It was so sad and upsetting to read of Moya’s passing. I shall miss her Irish wit that I always admired and her perfect choice of words to express a situation. Her wonderful garden was a delight to see. I shall also miss our shared memories of over forty years of Engineer’s Wive’s membership – what fun we had at those lunches and outings. My condolences to your family and Tasha.

    Sincerely,

Moya was a fellow member of the Probus Club of Saanich. What a lovely lady she was. She joined many events and lectures. I am so happy I met her if only through the club. She will be missed and will be remembered in a most positive way.

Moya was a friend in Engineers Wives since 1997. We walked, we talked, we celebrated. How she will be missed. Moya lived the best life she knew how, providing a light to follow. She was wise and courageous.

I was so sad to hear that Moya had died this past week and I send you all my condolences. I visited with her on Dec 2nd, her Birthday, and we had a fun time reminiscing and laughing about our adventures over the last 30 yrs. We enjoyed the hiking and bridge with Engineers wives and our times with ’55 plus’
She was a gardener at heart and never happier than when she was mucking about in the soil and what wonderful results! I always thought it was like going into a mini Butchart Gardens when I went through the gate. How I admired her stamina!
She adored her animals and I was glad to hear that Tasha was with her to the end.
I will not forget Moya and have some very special memories to keep forever.

My condolences to your family on the passing of your mother and grandmother. Both your parents were good friends of my parents, Wayne & Yvonne Chow. Both your mother and my father had a love of gardening and had many conversations about various plants. Your mother was a very good friend of my mother,Yvonne who enjoyed the many hikes, sharing muffins at the Marina with their coffee , dinners before the Symphony and enjoying the regular Symphony concerts with your Mom . In later years, I also attended the Symphony concerts with my mother so I came to know your mother, Moya. Little did we know that when Covid started, our mothers would not meet up again, but I know that Moya was a very special friend to my mother as I heard her name frequently.
Happy memories of both our mothers!

    Warmly,
    Gaylene Yeung
