Nev’s Story
Neville Montague “Nev” Ives passed away peacefully on Monday, April 28, 2025 in Victoria, British Columbia, at the age of 100.
Born on January 7, 1925, in Warwick, England, he attended Warwick School before pursuing a career as a chartered surveyor. His professional journey led him to Canada, where he dedicated over 30 years to the BC Assessment Authority, rising to the position of Deputy Assessment Commissioner.
Neville’s life was marked by distinguished military service. During the Second World War, he served with the Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, beginning as a private and later attaining the rank of lieutenant. He fought in Normandy, where he was wounded, and later served in India and Palestine before being demobilized in 1947. After emigrating to Canada with his wife Hilary in 1953, he continued his military service with the Canadian Scottish Regiment in Victoria B.C. for over a decade as a captain and adjutant.
Beyond his professional and military accomplishments, Neville was an avid gardener who found great joy in cultivating beauty from the earth. He was a devoted husband to his late wife Hilary and a cherished father to Geraldine (Fred) and Jonathan (Mary). He took immense pride in his granddaughters Sandra (Jeff), Jessica, Jillian, and Julia (Ryan), as well as his step-grandsons Jordan (Alice) and Joshua (Karen). He is also fondly remembered by his nieces Jane and Vivien and many great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his beloved sisters Molly and Beryl.
Neville’s legacy is one of dedication—to his family, his work, and both his country of birth and adopted homeland. His kindness, wisdom, and unwavering sense of duty will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and caregivers at the Veterans Memorial Lodge for their compassionate care and to Dr Peter Houghton and the staff at the Cordova Bay Medical Clinic for their years of dedicated service. May Neville’s memory bring comfort to those who loved him.
A Celebration of Nev’s Life will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC, on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at 10:00 am, with Deborah Redman celebrant. Interment of his urn will follow at the Royal Oak Burial Park.
