I was trying to sum up in one word what Olive meant to me, a difficult task for sure.
The one word I came up with was Mentor.
She mentored me in more ways than I could ever count.
She was there for me during some difficult times in my life. Any time I phoned her in a panic she never once told me she didn’t have time, even though I knew she was a very busy woman. I trusted her common sense advice and her confidentiality.
Her mentorship taught me to have confidence to host people in my home, confidence to teach, confidence to parent in ways I had never thought of, confidence to just be who I am and know that God loved me!
I will miss you my friend, but I thank God for all that you and Dennis have poured into this Deveau family.

We will be thinking of you all today as you celebrate Olive’s amazing life of service to her family, her friends, and to strangers. She will be deeply missed. With many happy memories and our love and prayers as you have embarked on a new chapter with a missing presence at your tables. Her silenced voice on earth is not stilled in heaven. Absent from her body but present with her precious Lord and friend.

My memories of Olive make me smile. She was always such a cheery, friendly and practical personality. Our family always felt my Dad had landed in a pretty peachy situation with Olive’s hospitality nearby! We will always be so grateful for her loving care of many of our family members. Our sympathies are with you all.

Dear Dennis and Family Our deepest, heartfelt condolences. Olive will be truly missed. Her wonderful nature and intuition was such a gift that made life easier for those around her. Her contagious laugh lighted the soul. What a light she was in this world. She is now with our Heavenly Father cancer free. “This world is not our home” Amen

What can I say. Ever since Olive & I met in the 60’s and discovered Den & Den were both mad, we’ve had a very close friendship in which thousands of miles made no difference. Over the years we’ve kept in touch, highlighted by Den & Olive visiting us & us visiting them in Canada. I will really miss Olive’s newsy letters about everyday life and family, sometimes exchanging recipes. Her passing has left a great hole in our hearts but it can never remove the fun we had & lasting memories . We will miss you dearly and look forward to meeting her with our Lord
How very much I will miss Olive. I could always count on Olive to have a good laugh with me. Olive was always so positive and encouraging, How very much she loved her family. Most of all Olive loved her Heavenly Father. That love covered everything in her life. We were all blessed to have her in our lives. Her life of testimony to Christ is seen in her family .

It’s hard to put into words how much all of you meant to us Dennis and family – when we say ‘we love you’; the Lord brought you to us at Bethany Chapel and you were like family to us. Our children have only grand memories of ‘Auntie O’ and my time with Olive as a dear friend was always precious. Her love of life, the Lord, family and care for others never waned. We will always treasure the courage we witnessed these last months as she bore faithful witness to her Lord to the very end.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you! I have so many fond memories of your mom and your family in general. ❤️ Chris

We have been so blessed by both Olive and Dennis. Olive’s big heart of welcome, full of love for and faith in her Lord and Saviour, blessed us, as did her gift of hospitality and joyful service in so many ways. We do not grieve as those who have no hope, but such a loss is hard this side of heaven. We lift you up Dennis, as we have been in prayer for you and the family.
God knew exactly what I needed when He brought Olive into my life. She was my first Bible study teacher and a model of what it means to be a woman in Christ. She listened to me, made me feel loved, corrected me, taught me how to pray and was instrumental in my decision to be baptized. I was blessed to spend a whole afternoon with her 3 months ago. She will be sorely missed, but I know we’ll reunite one day❤️ My condolences to Dennis and the entire family. Praying for you.

Auntie O had a huge impact on me as a child, growing up at Bethany. She was a godly woman, who knew how to have a good time, and no one who heard her laugh could forget it! May you (and the whole family) know the comfort of the Spirit at this time of mourning a special lady, Uncle D.

Olive had a big impact on me as a young woman. I learned a lot from her. She was like everyone’s mama and I loved her big personality and loud laugh. She is enjoying her rest and what a beautiful and wondrous rest that is, in the arms of her dear Lord. We will meet again one day.
Dennis I am so sorry to hear of Olives passing. It is so comforting to know that both Olive and Lynn were sure of where they were going. May you experience Gods peace. Your brother in Christ Kevin Rundle

Mrs.Scott will always stand out in my mind as a woman on a beautiful yet often thankless mission. As a child I had a level of appreciation for her good humoured, no nonsense, hospitable and giving approach to life, but now as an adult her many tireless investments are that much more pronounced in my mind. What a beautiful Light she reflected!
May you be richly rewarded for the race you ran so well, Mrs. Scott. Generations to come will benefit from your faithfulness.
