Ornett Milton Hackshaw, age 85 yrs, passed away peacefully at HOSPICE in Victoria BC on March 2, 2023.  Born April 22, 1937 in Coulls Hill, St.Vincent & the Grenadines in the West Indies, to Daisey Hackshaw and Patrick Allen.  Ornett is predeceased by wife Doreen Sylvia Hackshaw on 18 Nov 2022 after 61yrs of marriage. Survived by daughter (from a previous relationship) Francina DeRiggs, twin sons Keith (Kathy) and Kenneth (Janette), sister Phyllis Allen-James (Olson), his six granddaughters Natasha (Daniel), Veronica (Jeffrey), Ashley, Jonelle, Angi and Alyssa.

The charismatic life of living in the Caribbean for Ornett was structured in a Christian upbringing where he very much loved and respected his beloved mother who had taught him to work hard and respect others. Ornetts’ hard work resulted in him becoming an electrician for the St-Vincent Island Hydro Company and it was during this time he met his future wife Doreen. In 1960 Ornett immigrated to Canada to follow Doreen and marry her in Montreal Quebec. Ornett decided to become a nursing orderly at the Montreal General Hospital until he retired 30 yrs later with a career in care giving experienced in emergency, intensive and recovery care.

Ornett was an expert cricket player and administrator where he established cricket fields in the Montréal area. Ornett and Doreen loved dancing at many Caribbean cultural events. As years progressed, their closeness to God came to light as they put their dance shoes away and replaced it with a bible. This led to Ornett becoming an ordained minister. As a messenger of God, he spread Gods’ love and compassion in his daily errands around town and worldwide correspondence. After enduring several Montreal ice storms and with their age progressing, they decided to move closer to their son Kenneth in sunny much warmer Victoria, BC. Ornett and Doreen thoroughly loved senior living where gardening was one of his passions, resulting in huge flowers that grew in his garden.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. His passion and integrity to those he loved was unwavering.  His infectious smile will live on forever. A sincere “Thank You!” for the outstanding, compassionate care during Dad’s stay in Ross Place Seniors Center, Victoria General Hospital, Royal Jubilee Hospital, and Victoria Hospice.

Dad, we love you with all our hearts always and forever. It’s time to be with Doreen and the Lord.
