Patrick passed away on August 14, 2020 at his home in Victoria, BC. Patrick was born September 29, 1931, in Muckersaune, Co Mayo, Ireland.

Patrick is survived by his wife of 49 years Marion Farragher and their four children, Suzie (Greg) McGovern, Sean (Sika) Farragher, Sheila (Shawn) Dalton, and Michelle (Christopher) Mallalieu. Patrick and Marion are blessed with ten grandchildren: Kyra, Kaitlyn, Patrick, Seamus, Jasper, Chloe, Clara, Michael, Adeline, and Evan. He will be missed by his family and friends across Canada and Ireland.

From his very modest start, where he, at age 15 was hired to bring electricity to his home village of Muckersaune Ireland, he developed a taste of the new and set his sights on the future. His adventurous spirit soon led him to explore the world.

His first adventures were in Europe but his passion to explore shortly led him to South America where he worked in a mining company, rising through the ranks as a self-taught engineer. He spent many years in Venezuela and embraced the culture but an invitation to work in the remote regions of Northern Québec started the next chapter of his life in Canada.

Patrick met his wife in the most unlikely location while traveling in Ethiopia. An invitation to a treacherous horseback ride sealed their fate and they were wed shortly thereafter in Birmingham, England on February 29, 1971. Returning to Canada and eventually settling in Toronto, they were blessed with the four children. Patrick was a devoted father whom he imbued to his children his own sense of adventure.

As a younger man, Patrick’s love of flight led him to get his bush pilot license. Patrick had a love of photography, languages, and cultures. He delighted in his Irish heritage and maintained close relationships with his Irish family. Patrick loved children and was only too happy to play with all ten of his grandchildren. Throughout his life, he remained a devout Catholic and his faith gave him strength. Marion and Patrick have lived in Victoria, BC since 2016.

Patrick will be buried at Royal Oak Burial Park on Wednesday, August 19th at 12:00 pm PST followed by a celebration of Patrick’s life to be held at their property after his funeral. Friends and family from afar are invited to join the event via video conferencing, for details please contact sean.farragher1@gmail.com
