Peggy Rosalind McGill passed away 10 days after achieving 95 years of life. She was born in England and raised in India with her three sisters. Peggy joined the British Army at the outbreak of WWII and nursed patients from Dunkirk to India, and points in between, during the conflict. She married Dr. Alan McGill in India at the end of the war and moved to Canada as a war bride. Peggy and Alan went on to have four children and enjoyed over 30 years of a happy and harmonious marriage until Alan’s passing in 1976. She published her autobiography, Child of the Raj – Peggy’s Story, an account of an exotic childhood and a well- lived life. Peggy was an avid and skilled bridge player and a life-long traveller. She leaves behind her loving children, Alan (Debbie), Ken, Ruth and Margaret. An affectionate and involved grandmother, she leaves behind Cameron, Jamie, Katherine (Jeff) and Anthony, and step-grandchildren Kelly (Neale) and Stacey. Peggy also leaves behind her younger sister Celia, nieces Rosemary and Clarissa, and their families. Peggy’s gentle nature and sweet smile will be sorely missed. She is at peace with God now.

We wish to extend our warmest and sincerest thanks to the staff at Parkwood Court for the excellent care Peggy received while she resided there. Also, we would like to acknowledge and extend thanks to some of those involved in her final years, including the many people she knew from the Kiwanians, Shannon Oaks, the Royal Victoria Golf Club and the Monterey Centre. The family will be holding a private ceremony to honour and remember the gentle soul we loved so much.

Ruth I know how close you were to your mother and there is sadness in missing a mother’s physical presence. It was so good that you were able to help her write her book. That will keep her memory alive for you and your family and her many friends. My deepest condolences. Barb McDonald
