With great sadness, we announce the passing of Richard Lloyd McMorran. At 85 years of age, Rich passed away peacefully on June 18, 2016 with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Bev; sons, Scott (Linda), Michael (Evie); grandchildren, Chelsea, Brayden and Andrew and brothers, Bruce and David.

Rich was born and raised in Cordova Bay, B.C., his family documented as pioneers of the area. He loved his community and living by the ocean, appreciating each day of his life.

After graduating in 1954 from Civil Engineering at UBC, Rich took a job with Ontario Hydro where he met the love of his life, Beverley Gamble. Their adventures began after he brought his new bride to the “wilds” of B.C., living in Quesnel, Salmo and Prince George, eventually settling in Cordova Bay to raise their family.  Working primarily in land development, one of Rich’s most memorable projects was the development of Dean Park.

Retiring in his early 70’s, Rich wanted to keep giving to his community. As one of the founding members of the Cordova Bay 55+ Seniors Organization, he spent many hours and days volunteering at the 55+.  He recently received the inaugural Adult Leader Award from the Cordova Bay Community Awards Program.

Rich was a very competitive golfer and curler. Not many people can boast a hole in one as well as an eight ender!  He loved to garden and maintain his physical fitness, a regular sight in the Cordova Bay outside walking the neighborhood.  Rich and Bev also enjoyed traveling together and time spent in Palm Springs over the years.

He was a caring and wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. His sense of humor and outgoing nature made him the life of the party.  He will be missed by many.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30pm on Monday the 27th of June at the Cordova Bay Beachhouse.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Victoria Hospitals Foundation.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

I was truly blessed the day I met Rich and Bev….It has been a gift, that I could spend time in Rich’s fabulous garden. Chatting with him, sharing a chuckle, and always the best hug and smile came when I would arrive…followed by a great piece of rhubarb pie, or cookies from Bev….Thank you Rich for passing on some great garden secrets, and allowing me in your sanctuary…Bev, my thoughts are with you…Take Care. Love Wendy

After having a pleasant lunch with Rich at Gorge Vale golf course on Tuesday, I was shocked and dismayed to hear of his passing the following Saturday. He was upbeat and positive during the lunch and I am glad we were able to have that time together. Rich was a good friend and we golfed and curled together for many years.
My condolences to you Bev and to your family. Rich will be missed.
