Robert was born on March 12, 1942 in Victoria, B.C. to parents Robert and Florence Baxter.

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, at Hospice on April 4, 2018. He will be sadly missed by his wife Elaine Baxter (nee Ennis) of 53 years, his beloved daughter Carmen Leeming (Graeme) and cherished grandsons James and Carson. He also leaves his brother Ralph (Jill) Baxter, sister Marilyn Jenks, nieces and nephews.

Rob started a structural steel apprenticeship at Edwards Welding Ltd. in 1959, later becoming a co-owner then taking early retirement in 1992.  He then had more time for family which was the most important thing to him. ‘Papa’ loved spending time with James and Carson: playing at Greendale Cabins on Cowichan River, boating, flying drones together, building Rokenbok, lego, rocking horses and train tables.

Cruising, train travel, attending telephone shows, antiquing, fishing, listening to country music and having coffee with his Tuesday group of friends made him a very contented soul. He was a member of ATCA (#501) for nearly forty years.

Rob’s gentle manner, sense of humour, creativity, mechanical expertise, and modesty about his capabilities and accomplishments will be missed by so many.

Thank you to his closest friend, his brother Ralph, and also to Jill and his friends who this past year have given him so much comfort and joy.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. A. Mason, Dr. V. Bernstein, Dr. I. Vallieres whose untiring efforts gave us an extra year with Rob and to Dr. D. McGregor and Dr. G. Saiger, nurses and staff at Hospice for making Rob’s final week as comfortable as possible.

Donations in Rob’s memory can be made to the Victoria Cancer Clinic, 2410 Lee Avenue, Victoria, BC V8R 6V5 and Victoria Hospice, 1952 Bay Street, Victoria, BC V8R 1J8.
