Ronald passed away peacefully at the Heights of Mt. View Care Home, Saanich on January 16, 2019. He is survived by Barbara, his wife of 66 years; son Brent (Lili); daughter Susan; daughter Linda (Wayne), and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also leaves special niece Jean and nephew Dwight, who always kept in touch.

Ron was born on a farm at Clearwater, Manitoba to parents Jim and Marion Johnstone. He was the youngest of eight children, all of whom have passed away. Ron met Barbara at United College, Winnipeg; they were married June 6, 1952 in Transcona, Barbara’s home. Ron was ordained in The United Church of Canada in 1954 and retired in 1986, after 32 years service to congregations in Man., Sask., Alta. and B.C. In his retirement, he was an apartment manager for 7 years. He volunteered at Government House, restoring the landau carriage; Hatley Park Castle, Craigdarroch Castle, and Abkhazi Gardens. He loved people and enjoyed involvement with the community. Ron’s last years were difficult, as dementia developed.

Thanks to many friends who have helped us on the way, especially Rev. Larry Scott, Rev. Shelagh MacKinnon, the Care Group at First Met United Church – led by Kyla, Emily and Heather.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at 2:00 pm at First Metropolitan United Church, 932  Balmoral Road.

Donations in Ron’s memory may be made to  “First Metropolitan United  Church”.
