Stan was born in Byala Rada, Bulgaria on June 10, 1935, and passed away at Victoria General Hospital on August 30, 2021, at the age of 86 with family by his bedside.

Stan is survived by his wife Annabelle; daughter Melanie; and son Rod (Amanda) and two granddaughters Arden and Emily. Pre-deceased by his parents, Velkov Poikov Ivanov and Stanna (Denkova), brother Ivan and other family in Bulgaria.

In his early years he left his birth country Bulgaria, and travelled to many parts of Europe, like Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Austria, Italy, and Germany to name a few. Stan immigrated to Canada in 1957 and spent many years in Ontario before going west to Calgary, AB where he met his sweetheart Ann. In January 2021 they celebrated 55 years of marriage.

Stan spent 35 years working for Canada Malting Company Ltd (Calgary AB) before retiring in 2000. He never truly got used to being “retired’ so spent many summers fixing his home and building Ann’s rock gardens to keep busy. In his later years, Stan and Ann moved to Oliver, BC to be close to vineyards which reminded him of his homeland before moving once more to Victoria, BC (2016) for his final adventures.

Everyone who was lucky enough to have Stan in their life knew he would go out of his way to lend a helping hand or do anything for those around him. He was a kind, caring, generous, hardworking man, who was always willing to help a friend in need. Stan will be missed by all who knew him.

So so sorry to read this just today.
I’ve searched over the years so many times for some contact with Stan. We were in touch for few years after his visit to Bulgaria, but later he and Ann moved to Victoria and we lost touch.

We often speak about him and our time together in Bulgaria with my grandma Veska ( his niece) . She keeps great memories from their childhood in Byala Rada.
May he rest in peace. Our deepest condolences to Ann, Rod, Melanie and your families.

    Hi Auntie Ann, Melanie, Rod,

I am so sorry for your loss. I am saddened and my heart just hurts for you all right now . I loved my Uncle Stan a lot. He always sparked my curiosity I remember so many times as a little girl maybe being a little shy of him but then seeing him being so loving and caring always making me laugh. Buying very particular shaved ham ( I believe ) for his kitty only the best for her !!!!! He has a very loving soul and I am so sad for you that he is gone. I know he is watching over you all .

    I love you all .

    Amy
