With profound sadness and broken hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Stewart Lang (Stew) on April 17, 2022 in Victoria, BC.  Beloved son of Yvette and Gord; adored brother of Marcelle (husband Brian); cherished Uncle to Reyven; treasured grandson to Irvin (who preceded him in death) (Suzanne) and Dorothy, loved nephew to Stewart Thompson, Ian Thompson, Michelle Johnson, Brent Lang (Jill); and loved cousin to Dylan, Yvette, Shelly, Reagan and Jesse.

Stewart was also preceded in death by his cherished dogs Duke and Nitro.

Stew was a beautiful soul with a kind, loving and generous heart. He loved dogs more than anything, previously volunteering at an animal rescue farm in Vancouver. He was also a Big Brother to his dear friend Ben.

A highly skilled Red Seal Journeyman Plumber, Stew was also a Certified Gas and Pipefitter and was part of the Victoria Plumbers and Pipefitters Union.

Stew adored his family and friends. He had a small circle of lifelong best friends and a huge circle of friends and extended family, whom he loved dearly. He had a beautiful sparkle and energy, a mega-watt smile and a laugh that lit up the room.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stew’s name to the Humane Society, the SPCA or Big Brothers Big Sisters.

A Celebration of Life was held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 15, 2022 in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC.  For those friends and family who wish to join the service virtually, here is the Zoom link below. The link will be active at 1:45pm on the 15th of May.

    Dear Geordie and Yvette,
This morning, out of the blue, Dave said he was thinking of you both and we talked about Marcelle and Stewart, and the last time we ran into you, Yvette, at a store. So, while Dave was at his men’s group, I thought I would try and find a phone number. Sadly, instead I found Stewart’s memorial page. I cannot tell you how sorry I am to you all in the loss of your wonderful son and brother. I have such pleasant memories of Marcelle and Stewart and the mischief they got into at times as well.. I was able to watch the memorial and see how loved and cherished he was. Yvette, I would love to get together. If that is something you would like to do, just let me know❤️
Love to you, Gordie, and Marcelle.

A poem for Stew from his Aunty Michelle
    Stewy
    You are a lovely brother
    And a beautiful son, but
    Where are you now Stewy?
    Where have you gone?

Have you returned to the stars
    From which we all came?
    The Univrrse has changed now
It will never be the same
    But
You’ll be in the sun and
    In the night sky.
    In every breath of wind
    Every eagles cry
    Each drop of rain that
    Falls from on high
    Every rolling wave will
    Carry your name
    No more worries
    No more pain
    Until we see you again
    We love you, always xoxo

    Dear Suzie:

You and I have known each other for many, many years. During that time you have always spoken with such love and appreciation for the family that you joined when you married Irv. While I only have had the privilege of knowing Irv and his mother, I do feel that I know the rest of them a little bit through your eyes. Whenever I get a newsy email or updated pictures of the next generations you are always filled with such joy and pride with all of their accomplishments no matter which family member it is.

You are a woman of deep Faith and we know that you will lean on that during this difficult time. Stan and I send our deepest condolences to all of you.

    Sincerely,
    Wendy and Stan

  • Lucas Bosma

I worked with Stew on a few different jobs over the years and have only the absolute best things to say about that man. We talked through alot together in and out of work. He would check up on me when I was having a hard time and I will always be grateful of that. He was a hard worker, and we had so much fun working together, as I know everyone else did with him too. Miss you Buddy

My heart goes out to his family and friends

  • Steph + Luke Swinden

My husband and I got invited to go on a 1 week sailing trip with a bunch of people we had never met…Little did we know, we would all become fast friends. Stew was amongst the group. He was so chill, welcoming and easy to talk to. We didn’t know him super well, but he absolutely made an impact. His smile and cheekiness will not be forgotten! We are so sad to hear of his passing and hope you can find peace and comfort in this difficult time. Rest easy Stew <3

  • Bill Stewart

A great guy with a giant smile and a big heart gone way too soon. Broke my heart.

  • Michelle Schneider (used to be Michelle Rydde)

My condolences to your family. I knew Stew as a freshly hired welder on the 30-storey city of Edmonton building downtown. I came from retail at Marshalls to this scary high rise, scary tough welders, and all new to construction tradework. I did the job of 3 people, and worked crazy hours trying to make a good impression. One day, I was pressed for time and had to stay on site until 10:30 pm. I heard Stew on the radio and he was broadcasting music, which was a big no no, and I stopped him from having fun warning that if the supervisor heard, Stew would get in trouble. I wasn’t the easiest person to be around, always following the rules, and Stew loved having fun. When I wrapped up and was leaving site to walk to my car, Stew popped on the radio saying he’d be down in a minute. Stew walked me to my car. It was a long ways, it was dark, there were aggressive pan handlers out, and Stew reached out to help me, just hours after I stopped him from having fun. Stew was wild and I loved him. We carried a friendship for years after that. I’m sorry to see he’s gone, and happy to have had my life impacted by him. Thank you.

  • Heather Gillies

  • Marcus Lacroix

I worked with Stew on at least three jobsites over a total of three plus years. I loved working with him. He was a great plumber, so easy to get along with during, or after a shift. We worked hard but also had so many laughs over the years. I am richer for having known him. I miss him. What a beautiful ray of sunshine he is in all our lives.

I would like to extend my deepest condolences to family and friends.

  • Billie Leslie

So saddened by the news of Stew’s passing. He was the type of guy who just lit up the room with his smile and hearty contagious laugh. He was a friend to me and my family for many years, even giving my mom her nickname “Suze” that has stuck to this day. The world has lost a beautiful soul. May Stew rest in peace. I know he will never be forgotten by all of us that loved him.
