Thomas (Tom) John Davies passed away on the morning of May 23rd, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was too young to leave us, just 34 years old. Tom was held and surrounded by his mom and dad and his closest family who will carry him with them for the rest of their lives, especially in the moments that speak to Tom’s passions in this world.

Tom was an incredible angler and loved to cast off-shore whenever he had a moment to do so. Tom loved the peace and quiet of ‘hurrying up and waiting’ for a bite, though he did get restless if the rod-ends weren’t bending and was constantly tweaking and adjusting his setup to find that elusive catch. His mind worked that way, always trying to optimize and perfect what he was doing. Even as a little kid Tom took things apart just to understand how they worked. That same approach carried over into the kitchen where Tom, completely self-taught, learned how to make iconic delights like macarons (a fancy French cookie). His favourite was to take the fish he caught and prepare it fresh (nut crusted pan-fried… yum!) or turn it into the best smoked (trout) candy you ever tasted.

The best part for Tom was sharing. He loved seeing his children or nieces catch a fish. He loved the delight and excitement they experienced when they reeled it in, even if it was a tiny minnow! He loved when family and friends tasted what he cooked and was constantly sending little bits home so we could share it with our loved ones. He loved to teach a willing learner how to make the perfect sauce to go on fresh halibut. Tom had a big generous heart, which is probably why kids loved him so much. He was like a magnet for them. “Uncle Tom” was heard constantly when his brother’s children were around.

Mom says Tom’s life was chaos, and it was. Tom lived hard, worked hard, loved hard and fought like hell even at the end. We will miss you Tom, and we hope you are giving the hard parts of your life the finger now as you finally rest. Tom is survived by his two children, Jayden (Jay) and Olivia (Livy), his mom Vivian, his dad David and his brothers Adam and Mathew. His beloved Auntie Christine, step-dad Ian and his Grandparents Vitthale and Clare, Shirley and Walter.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 18, 2023, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, at 894 Pepin Crescent, Victoria, BC.
