Virginia passed away at home with her family close by.  She was predeceased by her loving husband of 66 years, George; dearly loved by children, Arthur (Louise), Shelley (Rod), David (Diane), Nicki (Patrick); her grandchildren, Tyler, Natalie (Chris), Heather, Nick (Tamara), Robin, Brendan, Charlotte, Brenden and Virginia; two great-grand children, George and Sloan.  She is also survived by her cousin, Willie Waddell, and her two children and her sister-in-law, Frances Cammiade, and her three children.

Mom was born in Edmonton, but moved a lot when young as her father was a railroad man.  Settling in Victoria, in her mid teens, with her mother and brother, she attended St. Ann’s Academy.  She lived on Arnold Street and met George Winter on her way to work at Manning’s Lumber Yard on Wharf Street.  Married in 1946, Mom raised four children, on her own a lot of the time as Dad was out of town working. Joining the Racquet Club of Victoria when it first opened, she met many people who became life long friends.  A Renaissance Woman, Mom loved art and The Arts, volunteered with several organizations, was physically active, was interested in the happenings of the world, travelled extensively with Dad, enjoyed playing bridge, was happy reading and gardening, and loved her animals.  Dad was an avid boater and he and Mom spent many enjoyable summers out on the water, but Mesachie Lake and the wonderful summers spent there from the 90’s on with her children, their spouses and her grandchildren, were the fulfilment of her wish for a cabin on a lake.

A great wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she will be missed and forever loved by those who were part of her life.

The family is extremely grateful for the kindness and support of Mom’s many friends, the community health nurses from Oak Bay/Gordon Head, the Palliative Care Response Team, the Red Cross, and Home Care Assistance Workers.

Mom’s service and reception will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive in Victoria on Sunday, January 27th at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the B.C. Cancer Clinic, the Red Cross, or Victoria Hospice.

Your Mom was so good to me all these years ago. Circumstances never allowed me to come back to Victoria and say “thank you”, but I wish they had.

    Hi Shelley,
So sorry to hear of your loss. Even though our mothers had long lives it is still tuff to accept a world without their presence. It does get easier not much but we still carry on mostly for the kids.
    As ever, Jack Lusk

Art, Shelley, David, Nicki and families,
We are so sorry for your loss. It is never easy and we can never be prepared for the loss of our mother. Your Mom was such a lovely lady, a real gem, gracious and generous, with a spirit of fun. She had a rich life, full of many contributions and was loved by so many. She loved you all so much.
    Our heartfelt condolences,
    Gary and Jane
