McCall Gardens

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Charles, who died peacefully at Beckley Farm Lodge, Victoria, BC.  He was predeceased by the love of his life, Kay, and his son Grant.  He is survived by his son Rob (Cathy) and his son Steve (Carol), his grandchildren Spencer, Taylor (Larissa), Amie (Justin) and William.

From the age of 3 to 16, he and his five brothers and sisters lived in the BC Protestant Orphanage now known as the Cridge Centre for the family.  Charles eventually worked in shoe repair then the Land Title Office and Royal Trust but was best known for his career as a successful Notary Public, obtaining his seal in 1958 and finally retiring in 1997.  He was a tireless worker, not only in his practice but in his involvement with his Church, which he helped found, and all the boards he sat on including the BC Protestant Orphanage which he helped transition to the Cridge Centre, as well as World Vision Canada, founding member for Regent College, Director of Young Life Canada, Director of the Board of the Housing Corporation of British Columbia, and a host of others.

Charles had a zest for life, travelling the world with Kay, they loved their cruises. He loved spending time with family and friends.  He always had time for people and helped many people in need.  He was a great husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and he will be sorely missed by all.

A Celebration of his Life will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC on Thursday, January 11, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow.

The family would like to thank the staff at Beckley Farm Lodge for their compassionate care, and his doctor, Dr. Chris Morgan.

In lieu of flowers if you are so inclined, please send donations to the Cridge Centre for the Family, 1307 Hillside Avenue, Victoria, BC V8T 0A2.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

In behalf of the Mel Smith Scholarship and Lecture Series at Trinity Western University, I offer our sincere condolences to Charles’ family. May you be sustained by many good memories and the faith that was the foundation of Charles’ life.
Charles was a founding member of our Board and supported this project with enthusiasm and very concrete financial support. We are now in our 20th year of operation made possible by Charles’ vision and generosity. He was truly a man of faith, an example to all.
Nick Loenen, Chairman, Mel Smith Scholarship, Lectures and Special Collection Board at TWU.

To the family of Charles Ellington, my condolences. I think I was working in the TD Bank when Charles Ellington first started up his Notary Public business. He was a very nice and interesting client right from the beginning. He shared a very pleasant relationship with all of the staff. To his children and grandchildren, weren’t you lucky to have him in your life.
    Rest in Peace.
