Win gently slipped away leaving her loving family and friends, at age 89. Win was born in Sussex, England, moving to Canada with her family at age 3, settling in Abbottsford, B.C. where she spent her youth. The family moved to Victoria during her High School years and Win worked as a welder in the Shipyards during the war years and met and married Reg. She was very involved with the Victoria Jayceettes, where she was President, enjoying the many friendships that she made and cherished over the years. Win inherited a passion for gardening from her father and spring planting was her one of her favourite activities. She loved to travel from Bahamas to Russia, China and Europe. Family was always very important to Win. She enjoyed family cruises, weekend shopping sprees with her daughters and most recently a Las Vegas trip for Christmas with all. Win was never one to give up and inspired many with her will and spirit along the way. She will always be remembered for her wonderful sense of humour, warmth and grace. A beautiful lady, our Princess!
Win was predeceased by her parents Beatrice and Alfred and brother Jack. She leaves behind her husband of 66 years, Reg and their children, son Larry, daughter Cathy Cox (Wayne), daughter Valerie Cownden (Paul) and son Michael; their grandchildren, Brian, Katie, Michael, Leanne, Jennifer, Andrew and Sarah; her sisters Doris, Olive, Val and brother Fred.
The family would like to say a special thanks to the exceptional personal care and advice given by Dr. Jennifer Whyte over the years. We are also very grateful to her caregiver, Ermalyn, for all the support and love she gave to Win.
A celebration of Win’s life will be held at McCall Bros, Johnson at Vancouver, on Thursday, February 21st, 2013 at 3:00 pm. A reception to follow in the McCall’s Family Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Victoria Hospice.

We are deeply saddened to learn of Win’s passing.She was always cheerful and full of ideas for her beautiful garden.The view from her kitchen window and the garden delights she saw from there, were more important to her than keeping up appearances in the front yard,for all to see(including tour buses full of gawking tourists!)..I always admired her for that ! Not that she left out the front yard.Just last year we planted 2 large Rhodos and more bulbs.
The planning and attention to detail months before her daughter’s surprise birthday party-greening up the lawns,setting up the pond,choosing late summer annuals,etc. were truly heart-warming and inspirational.
We will miss her dearly,but know that she is already creating her heavenly garden,while we lovingly tend to her earthly garden.
