Obituary notices can be personal and often remain part of a special family record.
Submisson Guidelines
The template below is a suggestion on how to compose an obituary notice. We can assist in composing the notice, in whole or in part, for no cost. We can also simply proofread it before adding it to our website and submitting it to newspapers for print.
Template
Announcement
The formal notification of death that states the full name and desired phrase (died, passed way, etc.) and date and city. The cause of death is not often stated but may be if desired. The date and place of birth are usually listed next.
Jane died peacefully after a courageous battle with Cancer, on May 30, 2026 in Victoria, BC. She was born on May 28, 1937 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Scheduled Ceremonies
This will include the time and location of events where the public is welcome (Celebration of LIfe, Funeral, Mass of Christian Burial, Viewing, Prayer Service, (etc.).
A Celebration of Jane’s Life will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, on Friday, June 11, 2026 at 2:00 pm.
Survivor Information
Listing the spouse, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws, other close relatives, close friends and even pets. Predeceased relatives are usually noted before the survivors.
Predeceased by her husband, William in 2020; Jane is survived by her children, Patricia (Frank) Thompson, Matthew (Sally) and Peter; grandchildren, Robin Thompson, James and Jessica Robinson; and her dog, Maddy. She will be missed by many other relatives and friends.
Contributions and Thank You’s
Some families request that contributions be made to a meaningful organization instead of sending flowers.
The family would like to thank Dr. Smith and the care team at Victoria Hospice for the wonderful care provided to Jane. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to BC Cancer Agency.
Biographical Information
This will include information about the deceased’s life, education, work, honours, passions, hobbies, etc.
Jane and Bill married in 1973 after Bill returned to Winnipeg after four years of military service in Europe. They moved shortly thereafter to Victoria where they decided to start a family. When the children became of school age, Jane returned to nursing at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. After Jane’s retirement in 2016, Jane and Bill loved to travel and explore the Gulf Islands on their sailboat. Above all, Jane’s greatest pleasure was spending time with her precious grandchildren and family.
