Neate, Dorcas Lydia (nee Lambert) died on November 21, 2013 in Victoria, BC. She was born on July 8th, 1924 in Dunton Green, Sussex, England. Dorcas is survived by her husband Frank; her children David, Michael, Roger, Neil and Graham; and many grandchildren.  All will miss her presence at family gatherings.

Dorcas survived the hardships of the Great Depression, and went on to serve with the Woman’s Royal Navy Service (aka WRNS or Wrens) during the Second World War, spending time in London during the Blitz. After the war, she immigrated to Canada and settled in Victoria, where she was married and raised a family.

Over the years, Dorcas was an avid bridge player, an enthusiastic volunteer assistant leader with the Girl Guides of Canada, and an instructional assistant at Camosun College. Mum loved nothing more than being with people and supporting them in their lives.

An informal memorial, for anyone who knew Dorcas, will be held at 920 Richmond Ave, Victoria, BC, on December 7, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00. The family requests that charitable donations be made on behalf of Dorcas, in lieu of other tangible memorials. We recommend the Stroke Recovery Association of British Columbia (http://strokerecoverybc.ca/). Condolences for the family may be offered below.

To Frank and the boys: I’m very sorry to learn that Dorcas recently passed away. Dorcas was one of my favorite participants in the strength training classes at Recreation Oak Bay. I will always have great memories of leading Dorcas through her exercises, beginning with her favorite upright bicycle and making sure she had her favorite magazines to read while pedaling away with great determination. Dorcas, we are going to miss you. Rest in peace.
