September 22, 1926 – October 3, 2015

A long and fulfilling life has come to an end with the passing of our dad, friend and mentor at Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria BC.

Dad was born in Selkirk, Manitoba, the last of 12 children of Mary Margaret and Garnet Wolseley Baldwin Shepard.

He will be missed and fondly remembered by his kids, Bruce (Donna), Grant (Ann), Lorna (Bill) and Alan (Verna) and grandchildren, Kirk and Heather.

When Mary, our mom and the love of his life for over 45 years passed in 1993, dad moved from their beautiful rock cottage and garden home in Gimli, Manitoba to Victoria, BC. He continued to enjoy a healthy, rewarding life until a short stay in the hospital for heart troubles.

Dad was an avid gardener, a master of interior design and was always the sharpest dressed man in the room. His rock walls and stone gardens around Canada will be his legacy for many years to come.

We want to assure his many friends, old and new, that he loved your company and thoroughly enjoyed hosting his annual parties and get-togethers in your honour. He loved to entertain!

We would like to thank all the staff at Royal Jubilee Hospital and say a very special thank you to Dr. Sheikh and Nurse Kim, who were so wonderful with dad.

Interment has already taken place, and a celebration of dad’s life will be held in the future. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. In memory of dad, please mix a martini and think of all the good times you had together. Cheers to Bob!  Condolences may be offered to the family below.

So sorry to hear of Robert Shepard’s passing. The reason for this message years later is that Robert has shown up in my Ancestry DNA story today as my closest “distant/unknown” relative of the 300k+ people on file (after my first cousin). Apparently we are most likely to be 3rd cousins (or similar). I’m 52 and reside in Australia from Hungarian ancestry. It was lovely to read a little bit about Robert’s life here in these messages.

Bob Shepard was a true gentleman. I enjoyed his summer and Christmas get togethers. They were always done in great taste We also enjoyed many chats. He beautified the area around the cottages and we all had the benefit of his professional handiwork. He will be greatly missed.

    God bless

Bob gave me my first nickname before I was even born, took me on tours of his gardens and fish ponds in Gimli and on Vancouver Island, introduced me to peach drink, has been a great friend to my mom over the years, and was a great example to me of what it means to live a great and full life with so much love for those around you.

My sincere condolences to all of those who loved him and my sincere gratitude for the chance I was given to know him.

  • Mary, Danny, and Braeden Stawychny

The world has lost one of the most creative and talented men. We were in awe of everything he did, particularly the great wall in Prince George, British Columbia. Danny was always impressed when he would pick Mr. Shepard up at the airport. Mr. Shepard was so easy to spot as he was the most distinguished looking person there. Loved that he was still going strong in his 80s.

Thinking of all of you during this very difficult time.

We were very sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. It is very hard to lose a parent. May the many memories that you have collected over the years keep Bob in your heart forever.

    With our deepest sympathy,

Thinking of you and would like to plant a tree in Uncle Bob’s memory. Please tell me where to send a cheque.

  • Shelley George

He had a good kick-at-the-can! Lots of fun when Uncle Bob was around. He had a way of story-telling that would leave everyone in stitches! Thought I heard him and his sister Margaret laughing last night.
    Bye Bob
