Dad passed away suddenly, but peacefully on October 20, 2015 at The Lodge at Broadmead, Victoria, 8 ½ months after his 92nd birthday.
He was born February 4, 1923 in Delia, AB as the 11th of 12 children of Robert John Duncan and Lovina Haddie Koepp. His older siblings were Mary (Russell Farwell), Frances, Lovina, Robert, Alice, Florence, Margaret, Annie (Bert Ellner), Myrtle (Garnet Dobson) Phyllis, and younger sister, Mabel (Martin Hoydal).
Although he was born and grew up in Delia, he later moved with family to Saskatoon where he met the love of his life, Agnes Rose Ellen Campbell. They were married in Saskatoon, SK on September 11, 1941 and moved to a farm on Mt. Newton Cross Road in Saanichton, BC with his parents and sisters a few months later.
While Dad was serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) as an air-frame mechanic from 1943-1945 and 1951-1973, the family lived in Victoria, Vancouver, North Bay (ON), Bagotville (QC), and Cumberland. After Dad retired from the military in 1973, they moved to Victoria in 1974. He worked briefly for the BC Ferries and then as custodian for the Saanich School District. After 35 years in Victoria, Dad and Mom moved to the Peninsula at Norgarden in Sidney in 2009 and found a new community of friends there. Mom passed away on Good Friday, April 22, 2011 just seven weeks after her 90th birthday. This was just a few months before they would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. In June 2011, Dad moved to The Lodge at Broadmead in Victoria.
Dad enjoyed listening to classical music, watching old movies with Mom, and spending time with his family.
He will be remembered by his children, Rosellen (Ted) King, Bob (Verna) Duncan, Kathy (Claude) Ringuette, Mary (Bob) Gustafson; 15 Grandchildren; 28 Great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and their families. He was predeceased by Agnes, his wife of nearly 70 years; daughter Carol (Tom) O’Connor; granddaughter Stephanie King; grandson Robert Gustafson, his parents plus all siblings and their spouses.
The family extends a special thank you to the Staff on B3 at the Lodge at Broadmead, Victoria for their patience and care for Dad during his residence there.
