    Dear Maarten,

I just learned of George’s passing upon returning to the Y over the weekend.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences respecting this enormous personal loss.

Although I never had the privilege of knowing George our conversations frequently touched upon him and, in particular, his connection to Hornby Island.

Maarten, I’ve long recognized that at times like these one can never capture words sufficient to ease the sorrow arising from such a loss–only time can and will do so. I simply wanted you to know that you’re very much in my thoughts and to wish you all strength on the journey ahead.

    Keep well my friend,

    Steve

I worked with George at the Laurel Point Inn in 1985. He was such a very nice man, and a friendly face to a newcomer to Victoria. I’m so sorry to hear of his passing.
