Pearl died peacefully on Saturday, August 19, 2017, at Oak Bay Lodge. Mom was born in Winnipeg on October 2, 1921 Predeceased by Gordon, her husband of 55 years in 1998; her sister Ruby Walker and her brother Donald Davidson; she is survived by her three children and their families: son Jim (Bernice) Taylor, grandsons Mike (Laura) and Greg; daughter Lorraine Taylor, granddaughters Angela (Jay Panzica) and Helene Stangness; son Paul (Liz) Taylor, granddaughters Kelly and Alison (David Antonik); great-grandchildren Max and Lily Taylor; Arielle (Joshua Bent), Ashley and Mitchell McArthur; Shelby Stangness; James and Ryan Antonik; many nieces, nephews and their families.
Mom’s family moved to Victoria in the early 1920’s. Her brother Don’s school chum, Gordon Taylor, finally proposed and they were married on September 20, 1943. At the end of WWII, Dad returned to Victoria and Jim (1946), Lorraine (1948) and Paul (1952) were born. Thanks to the RCN, they spent two short periods in Halifax, but Mom lived here in Victoria most of her life. Her main life’s work was raising her family. She also worked at Victoria Laundry during the War, and at Ballantyne’s Florist in the late 1960’s. Mom and Dad played in a Shuffleboard League at the Chiefs and Petty Officers Mess and bowled at Esquimalt Lanes. Mom enjoyed touring with Paul and Liz and the Vintage Car Club in her later years.
Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, August 28, 2017, at McCall Gardens Sequoia Centre, 4665 Falaise Drive, with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations to either the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada or to Diabetes Canada would be appreciated.
Our sincere thanks to the wonderful staff at Oak Bay Lodge for their care and support of our mother during her five-year stay.
