With great sadness, his family announces George’s passing away peacefully in Victoria, B.C. at the age of 91. George was born in Glasgow, Scotland, immigrated to Canada in 1957, moving to Smithers (1964) and eventually to Victoria. George joined the British Merchant Navy at the tender age of 17, safely conveying soldiers, equipment and provisions across the North Atlantic, at great peril, throughout World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Nicole; his sister, Sylvia; his son, Richard; his daughters Dolores and Lorna; his grandchildren Ian, Tanya, Delaina and Tammy; as well as many great-grandchildren living in B.C., Smithers and Kamloops.

George and Nicole shared many adventures and endeavours, including a sailing journey of five years.

Nicole, as well as family near and far, miss George greatly, including George’s extended family members, Patrick, Cindy, Wayne and Jon, their spouses and their children Emilie, Patrick, Christopher, Meghan, Jane, Sophie, and Allegra.

Heartfelt thanks go to the kind and wonderful staff and caregivers at Mount St. Mary Hospital in Victoria BC.

“Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.”

A Private Celebration of George’s Life will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018, in Victoria BC.
