Juliana died peacefully on September 11, 2024 in Victoria, B.C.
Juliana was born on January 9, 1935, in Mapusa, Goa, India, and was the youngest of seven children. She was predeceased by her husband, John in 2006; and is survived by her children James (Norma) and Janet (Fred); grandchildren Ruth (Justin) and Jude (Talasha); great-grandson Asher (Ruth and Justin); and many nieces and nephews.
Juliana was a well-rounded individual who spoke six languages, was an incredible cook and baker, and loved to crochet. She was a very caring, generous and loving individual. She was a devoted Roman Catholic who prayed for everyone daily. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.
Juliana and John married in 1957 in Goa, India. Shortly after getting married, they moved to Uganda, Africa, where they started their family while Juliana worked for the immigration department. In 1972, their family was forced to move to Winnipeg, Manitoba, due to the expulsions of Asians from Uganda. Juliana and John were forced to restart their lives in Canada, but with determination and hard work they overcame many obstacles to provide a great life for their family.
In 2005, Juliana and John moved to Victoria, B.C., to live with their daughter, Janet and family. Juliana’s greatest pleasure was spending time with her family. Juliana had a special spot in her heart for her son-in-law, Fred, for all the love and care that he constantly provided for her. Ruth and Jude were blessed to have their grandma live with them. She instilled in them values of generosity, and kindness.
Juliana was most excited about her great-grandson, Asher, who she spent lots of time with until her passing.
Juliana would visit Winnipeg where James and Norma lived; and when unable to travel she spent lots of time talking on the phone with them. She was grateful for her daughter-in-law, Norma, for her concern for Juliana’s well-being and their many conversations.
A Celebration of Juliana’s life will be held at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 753 Burnside Road West, on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 1:00 pm. Juliana will be buried at the Royal Oak Burial Park, 4673 Falaise Drive, in Victoria, BC.

Our deepest condolences to James, Norma, Janet, Fred, Ruth, Justin, Jude, Talasha, Asher and family. I would like to offer our condolences to Wilma and Irene too, as we remember them as being part of Aunty Julie’s family in Kampala. She had a big heart and was generous to a fault. It was heartening to hear that she was very well cared for by her family and that she received the last rites. May she rest in peace and rise in glory. Our ongoing prayers for the loved ones she left behind.
Ezilda, Rudolf and family
